How to create a folder on a laptop without a mouse

Before the advent of computer mice, commands and data were entered into the system using the keyboard. Nowadays, a user-friendly interface allows you to implement almost all of your functionality with a couple of mouse clicks. However, it wouldn’t hurt to know about a couple of little tricks that allow you to create a new directory solely using keyboard commands and sending a message.

How to create a folder without using a mouse on a PC

Typically, PC users prefer to create folders using a computer mouse. However, this is not the only possible way. If you don’t like to take your hands off the keyboard, or your mouse suddenly breaks, then you can use hot keys.

REFERENCE. Hot keys are a combination of several buttons that allow you to quickly execute the desired command. Knowing hot combinations saves time and allows you to use additional functionality of the system.

There are two ways to create a new folder.

First way:

1. Press Win+D at the same time.
2. Enter the Windows context menu by simultaneously pressing Shift+F10.
3. Use the arrows to find the “create” item.
4. Using Enter, select the function create a new folder.

REFERENCE. On the Win key there is a Windows logo in the form of four square windows. By pressing Win you can open the Start menu without using the mouse.

Second way:

1. We return to the desktop.
2. Press Shift+Ctrl+N.
3. The folder is ready.

REFERENCE.If you decide to try both options one by one, then before using the second method, press Win + D again.

The second method is the simplest and works equally on both PC and laptop. However, this only works on operating systems starting from Windows 7 and higher.

REFERENCE. You can rename your folder immediately after creation by simply typing the text and pressing Enter.

How to create a folder without using a mouse on a laptop

Modern laptops are equipped with a built-in touchpad, so they don’t need a mouse as such. However, on a laptop it is possible to create a folder using a hotkey combination. The first method differs from the computer version in minor changes:

• Press Win+D at the same time.
• Press Shift+F10 at the same time, only this time we also add the Fn key to them.
• Create a new folder using the Enter key.

REFERENCE. The Fn key provides access to additional features of the laptop. Typically, special function keys are marked in the same color as Fn, and only work in conjunction with this button.

The second method uses the same combination of buttons as on a PC: Shift+Ctrl+N. This method also works great on most modern laptops.

Douglas Engelbart is considered the creator of the computer mouse. The professor understood that entering commands using the keyboard slowed down data acquisition, and for an effective system of working with information, the ability to quickly select objects directly on the screen was needed.
