It can be difficult for a novice user to understand computer terminology. A fairly common misconception among beginners is that RMB means a certain key on the keyboard.
The term actually stands for "right mouse button." There are simply no other options for this abbreviation in the computer field.
IMPORTANT! Whatever type of PC you use: a desktop device or a laptop, in all cases this concept is used only to refer to the right mouse button.
Why do you need PCM?
Unlike the left one, the right mouse button plays an auxiliary role. The range of use of the button includes two operating options: the main one and as part of key combinations.
The main application involves calling the context menu and subsequent manipulations with it. The list appears when you right-click on the file once and may contain a different number of available commands. Their nature and number depend on the properties of a particular object.
The most common actions in the context list:
- Moving files. When you press and hold an object using RMB, a menu is called up in which the user selects the type of action: copy, cut, etc.
- Working with applications.Calling up the hidden menu allows you to use basic commands for the selected program.
- Menu in the notification area (tray). Here you can configure the view of the area, call the task manager, etc.
Use in combination with keyboard buttons allows you to implement auxiliary options.
The Shift key can be used when right-clicking on a file (folder). New commands will appear in the context section, the list of which is determined by the operating system version.
ATTENTION! The set of actions also differs depending on the nature of the item used (folder or file).
The combination Ctrl + Shift + RMB launches applications as Administrator. You can close the context menu by simply clicking outside of it with the left key.
The convenience of PCM is undeniable, but it is worth noting that not all computer functions are implemented by this tool. There are options, such as various window appearance settings, etc., that will not be reflected in the button drop-down menu. Thus, its capabilities are limited.
If the user is left-handed, then it may be convenient for him to change the functionality of the keys by swapping them. How to do it?
Follow the path: Start – Control Panel – “Hardware and Sound” – “Devices and Printers” – “Mouse” and in the last window open the “Buttons” tab. Activate the “Change button assignments” option.
ATTENTION! The name of this option may vary slightly on different Windows systems.
This mode may also be required if the left button fails, which will allow you to temporarily replace it using RMB.
