What speakers to connect to the TV

What speakers to connect to the TVModern TV models have built-in speakers designed for a certain sound level. Additional acoustic devices help improve the sound. Your own home theater will allow you to distinguish all the sound effects and truly listen to high-quality surround sound.

What speakers to connect

The choice of external device depends on the expected result of such a connection.

Active

The simplest type of acoustics is active speakers connected to all types of TVs. Active speaker systems, including regular speakers, are equipped with an amplifier. The speakers are connected via a cable with a plug, for which there is a special connector on the TV panel. The speakers are powered by mains power. All connectors are clearly labeled, so it's easy to identify the right socket. The speakers connect directly to the TV without adapters or other devices.

Passive

Speakers of this type are not equipped with an amplifier. To connect them to the TV, an external device is used - an amplifier.

Attention! The amplifier power should not be less than 30% of the power of passive speakers.

The speakers are connected taking into account their output impedance, which must match the impedance of the amplifier. If it is larger, then they will sound quieter.If it’s less, it’s the opposite, which can lead to the amplifier burning out, even with protection. An important condition is polarity: the left channel is connected to the left speaker, the right channel to the right. Failure to comply with this rule will result in deterioration in sound quality.

Passive speakers

If the cable is not included in the basic package, it must be purchased separately. The recommended cable cross-sectional area is more than 1 sq. see. The higher this indicator, the more reliable the connection. If several passive speakers are used, they are connected through an AV receiver with a separate cable. The highest quality sound is obtained when using the HDMI connector. If available, preference should be given to this method.

Stereo system

It is an amplifier with several passive speakers of different power. The connection is made to the “Scart” socket via an RCA or TRS adapter cable.

Reference! Most old-style TVs have an RCA or TRS connector; they do not require an adapter for connection.

The audio signal comes out of the TV, so you should select the connector marked “OUT” - output. Accordingly, the cable is connected to the amplifier through the “IN” jack - input. The simplest stereo system consists of two speakers and a subwoofer. This inexpensive option can significantly improve sound quality. However, the full effect of high-quality surround sound can only be achieved using a composite stereo system.

Music Center

This speaker system is characterized by high-quality sound reproduction. It can be used as a sound amplifier for TV. It is connected using an RCA connector; for the latest TVs you will have to use an adapter cable.The connection is made by analogy with an amplifier: the “OUT” connector of the TV - the “IN” connector of the music center.

Home cinema

Connecting a home theater gives the best results among speaker systems. This is the most advanced stereo system available today. It includes a high-power amplifier and a professional-class receiver, thanks to which the output sound acquires purity and volume.

Important! Before you start connecting your home theater, you must study the instructions that came with it.

Home cinema

Such a speaker system is connected through the receiver using Scart - TRS or Scart - RCA cables. If the TV has an optical audio output, then the devices are connected using an optical audio cable. The signal is transmitted with a light flux simultaneously to all devices of the system.

TV speaker inputs and jacks

All televisions of the latest generations are equipped with connectors for connecting acoustic equipment:

  • special RCA (tulip) connectors, Scart – connection of passive speakers;
  • linear output – connection of active speakers if there are no special connectors;
  • HDMI ARC – connecting new equipment (home cinema or stereo system);
  • headphone or headset output – can be used for speakers without special connectors;
  • optical audio output SRDIF or TOSLINK – for connecting to receivers with an optical input.

Outputs on TV

Each speaker system has its own connection method. The speakers use an RCA port. Some speakers have a 3.5mm jack and require an RCA to TRS 3.5mm adapter.
Line output is used to connect speakers via “+” and “-”.On the rear panel they are represented by two pairs of connectors in red (+) and black (-) colors.

Another modern connection method is Bluetooth, which allows wireless connection to speaker systems. The main condition for this method is that the acoustics have the same function.
