How to output sound from PS4 to speakers

Often the TV cannot provide high sound quality. That is why additional speakers are used to ensure better sound. The need to connect speakers to the console may also arise if the console itself does not work with a TV, but with a monitor that cannot provide audio playback.

Methods for connecting a speaker to PS4 (PS4 slim, PS4 pro)

There are several basic ways for speakers and console to communicate. Here are the most basic ones.

Connect directly to PS4

The console itself is connected via an HDMI connector, which, in addition to high-quality images, can also output sound.

The connector is located next to the HDMI port. This is where you need to connect the optical digital cable (TOSLINK). The other end of the cable must be connected to the speaker system itself.

Connecting speakers via gamepad

This method is very original, since not every user would think of connecting the speaker system not to the console itself, but to the gamepad.

Some models of joysticks for SonyPlaystation 4 have a 3.5 mm mini Jack connector for connecting headphones or a headset. However, it is also suitable for connecting speakers. Since the 3.5 mm jack is standard for all speaker systems.

There are two main factors that prevent you from using this method.

• The wire interferes with the game. Due to the fact that the speakers are connected directly to the controller, the gameplay may be difficult as the cable may get in the way.
• Due to the connected speakers, the joystick discharges faster. On PS4, gamepads are wireless and run on rechargeable batteries. Therefore, they require recharging from time to time. When connecting additional devices to them, the continuous operation time is reduced.

Connecting speakers through an additional set-top box or TV device.

This method is the simplest. How the speakers are connected not to the console itself, but to other devices that receive a signal from the PS4. Since most of the various TVs or set-top boxes, in addition to the HDMI input, also have all sorts of analog outputs, connecting additional equipment is not difficult even for inexperienced users.

To connect, just plug the cable into the appropriate socket.

There are two connection options.

• When the left and right channels go on one channel to the mini Jack output.Then it is enough to connect the latter to the appropriate connector, and the equipment is ready for use.
• The left and right channels go through different wires. In this case, the connection is made through a composite input. To make such a connection, you need to connect the left and right channels to the corresponding sockets. They are usually marked with letters and numbers.

Connecting a Bluetooth speaker

To make this connection, in addition to the console itself, you will need a wireless speaker system.

To connect, you need to turn on the device, then go to the console settings and open the wireless connection menu.

After a short search for devices available for connection, a wireless gadget will appear in the list. After the pairing process, the device is ready for use.

Sound settings

In order to adjust the sound, you need to go to the PS4 menu and open the “Sound and Screen” options. Then select “Audio Output Settings” and click on “Primary Output Connector”. After this, you need to select the Digital out port.

IMPORTANT! This setting is only needed when connecting speakers in the first way, via an optical output. In other cases, there is no need to change these settings.

Possible difficulties in outputting sound to speakers

The main problem with sound output to speakers is poor cable connections. To do this, just check the functionality of the connectors and plugs on other devices.
