Acoustic speakers are one of the fundamental parts of an acoustic system (AS). Without this device it is impossible to reproduce sound into the space around us. The speaker has built-in power amplifiers, receives power from a network cable or connects directly to a pre-amplifier for music playback.
REFERENCE! There are broadband and multi-band speakers. The difference between them is that the former work with one speaker that supports any frequency, and the latter with two or more speakers operating in a certain frequency range.

What types of speakers are there?
Not all acoustic devices are the same; they differ in some ways.There are several column options. All such equipment is divided into several groups, according to the type of speaker system:
- Active AC. This device contains a block that processes the audio signal coming from the player to the speaker, and consists of a speaker and an amplifier. Using the control device on the amplifier, the strength of the sound signal in the speaker is adjusted. Active speakers are connected using wires, which can be inconvenient. But the sound will be much better due to the direct connection of the amplifier to the speakers. Active type audio systems are less subject to wear due to minimal heating of parts. Such systems are more suitable for home use or for small audiences.
- Passive speaker. Passive speakers do not have built-in modules and are ordinary speakers. The problem is that the same speakers can produce different sounds, this depends on the amplifier, which is selected separately for them and must match the power of the speaker, otherwise the acoustics can quickly fail. Such acoustic systems are very popular in professional life. Their main value is that they can be placed at the required distance from the control system, for example, far from the stage. High power during operation has an adverse effect on them, which causes the electronic components to heat up.
Acoustic systems can be different in appearance, type of location, power, size, and design.
Characteristics of acoustic speakers
The performance of audio systems is very important to users. Often the characteristics of devices from domestic and foreign manufacturers do not match. Let's consider the most significant:
- Efficient playback. This is the range of frequencies within which the sound pressure level develops. The value of this characteristic greatly affects the naturalness of the sound. The most natural sound occurs when the operating range is close to the maximum value perceived by human hearing. The larger the sound system cabinet, the more effectively low frequencies are reproduced.
- Uneven sound pressure. An audio system with direct sound pressure is ideal for sound transmission. But in fact, the sound of the speakers has broken curves with some dips. It depends on them how well the sound will be reproduced.
- Directionality. This characteristic allows the speakers to be positioned in the room as optimally as possible. Thanks to this, it is possible to assess the distribution of sound radiation in space.
- Sensitivity. This parameter allows you to determine what dynamic range the acoustics can provide. A wide range allows you to transmit more complex sound works, for example, jazz, symphony.
- Distortion indicator. Qualifies changes that distort the accuracy of reproduction. This coefficient is very important, because as the sound strength increases, the distortion rate increases.
- Electric power. Characterizes the sound level that a speaker can produce in a particular room. Depending on various parameters, there are several types of power, from simply maximum to peak. What amplifier power is needed depends on the space in the room, other characteristics of the sound system, and the needs of the buyer.
Measuring the characteristics of speakers, if this does not happen in a special service of the manufacturing plants, is a complex and expensive undertaking that does not give one hundred percent results.
