Why does the USB keyboard not work on boot?
This situation is familiar to the following categories of users:
- those who decide to independently update the version of the Windows operating system;
- who have picked up a virus or Trojan that has changed settings or blocked some computer functions;
- uninstalled keyboard drivers.
If none of the listed factors are suitable, a software failure and a breakdown of the keyboard remains. Most often the wire and plug fail. Be sure to inspect them for visible integrity violations.
How to fix the problem
First, you should check the functionality of the keyboard itself. To do this, simply connect it to another computer. After connecting, the automatic installation of drivers should normally begin. If this does not happen, and the device is not detected at all, then most likely it has failed.
Important! Before taking drastic measures, do not forget to download and run the utility. Perhaps the reason for what is happening lies in a virus attack.
If no problems are found during the check, then in order to fix the bug you will need to get smart and gain access to the main computer (not the one on which the performance testing was carried out).Some actions can be done with the mouse, for others you will have to connect a wired keyboard. For example, it is needed in Bios - for the next step in solving the problem.
Once there, look at the USB Keyboard Support and/or Legacy USB Support settings. Opposite them should be set to “Enabled”. If it is something else, change it to the correct option, then save the changes and return to the operating system.
If after this step the computer still does not see the keyboard, then try disabling fast boot mode. The action is performed as follows (path):
- the control panel opens;
- select “System and Security”;
- follow the branch “Power Options – Power Button Actions – Shutdown Options”;
- in the last opened section, uncheck the “Enable fast startup” checkbox;
- the changes are saved.
After this, it is advisable to reboot the device. Ideally, the keyboard problem should be resolved by this. If not, then you should seek help from specialists.
