Why does the keyboard not work after the update?
A fairly common problem is when the keyboard stops working after updating Windows 10. This malfunction can be caused either by resetting driver settings or by incorrect operation. Regardless of the nature of the problem, if the connected gadgets are functional, then you can fix the problem on your own.
How to fix the problem
There are several basic ways to solve problems that have arisen.
- The easiest way to solve the problem is to disconnect the device and then connect it again. After this, the system will begin setting itself up and the device will be ready for use. This method will help if the driver settings are lost due to an update. This method is also suitable for wireless devices.
- If the PC responds to button presses, you should check the functionality of the device before loading Windows. To do this, you need to go to BIOS. If you were able to access it and the keyboard performs its functions properly, it means that the driver is faulty. You should download the latest version from the official website, or roll back the current one to a previous working version. If the BIOS does not respond to button presses, it means that the problem is in the controller and you will not be able to fix this problem yourself.
- If the device does not respond to clicks, but responds to mouse movements, then there are problems in the registry.
In order to fix the problem in the registry, you first need to enable the on-screen keyboard. This is done in the menu “Settings” - “Special Features” - “On-Screen Keyboard”. Then enable this special feature.
The next step is to open the registry itself. To do this, you need to open the command window with the combination Win + R, and then enter the command “regedit” using the screen device in the line that opens, after which the registry window will open. In it you need to go to the following menu:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1–08002BE10318
- In the last menu, find the UpperFitters item, right-click, and then click “Edit”.
- After this, you need to enter the kbdclass value and then restart the computer.
Also, the keyboard may not work due to an antivirus program, namely Kaspersky. In order to fix the problem, you need to uninstall the antivirus, and then download and install the updated version.
