How to make a joystick for a phone

The recent release of Fortnite and PUBG games do not allow the use of wireless joysticks, but these would be just the thing. It is most convenient to run, shoot and aim, and simply control the game using a gamepad, but using only ordinary buttons on the screen is completely inconvenient. Therefore, there is an affordable alternative to wireless joysticks - create a gamepad yourself without using complex tools and techniques.

Thanks to a homemade joystick, it will probably be possible to use 4 fingers at once, as a result of which the quality of the game and the pleasure from it will increase significantly.

What you need to make a joystick for your phone

To create a gamepad with your own hands for a mobile phone, you will need quite simple and affordable materials:

• cardboard,
• pencil,
• scissors,
• control chip,
• two buttons,
• portable fan,
• wire and glue.

Joystick assembly process

1. First of all, we draw a joystick on cardboard, or, more precisely, its shape.
2. Then we begin to cut out exactly according to the drawn office. When the form is ready, you can move on to the next step.
3. To the cut-out shape of the gamepad you need to attach a control chip, a battery and an on/off key and, of course, a fan.
4. The peculiarity of such a joystick is its low cost, which means accessibility.When the shape of the future gamepad is almost ready, you need to cut out a small “window” in one of the edges of the shape to install a fan; it will be needed to cool the mobile phone during the game.
5. Using special hot glue, you need to install two small pieces of metal wire to the base of the fan on both sides. When the wire is securely fastened, attach an elastic band exactly in the middle of the fan.
6. At the end of the work, you need to glue two plywood pieces on both sides of the joystick, onto which the fan rubber bands will be attached, and after that you can install the battery in the place prepared for it, the microcircuit and the buttons for turning it on and off.

Device testing

As soon as the made device for the phone is completely ready and the glue has dried well, you can begin to use it for its intended purpose. For the first test, you need to connect it to your smartphone. Then you need to go to the “control” or “control panel” column, click on the “devices” or “gaming devices” shortcut and select the type of gamepad. Point out that it has two buttons and four different levels of freedom. After that, configure. Moreover, the result of a homemade gamepad will be noticeable instantly!

IMPORTANT! If you see how the arrow or cross moves across the screen in the game, and the blue bars smoothly “crawl”, then this means that your homemade gamepad is working to its fullest!

It should be noted that this joystick also works under Linux, and the method for setting it up is completely similar to that described above. By the way, in any other simulators buttons are not required, but without them you won’t be able to configure the gamepad, so you need to set at least one key.
