What is needed to disassemble the Xbox 360 controller
To disassemble the joystick on the Xbox 360, you do not need a special tool, just a simple set consisting of three elements:
- Phillips screwdriver;
- flat screwdriver;
- hex wrench or Torx 8.
REFERENCE! This set of tools is quite enough to complete the entire disassembly process. If suddenly you don’t have a flat screwdriver at hand, use a knife or other similar device instead.
How to disassemble an Xbox 360 joystick
Depending on the purpose, you can partially or completely disassemble the gamepad. When you achieve your goal, you can stop at any of the points below.
So, step-by-step disassembly of the Xbox 360 joystick is carried out as follows:
- It is necessary to remove the cover of the battery compartment (depending on the modification, the battery may be a battery or an accumulator) and remove it.
- Using a hex key or Torx 8 screwdriver, unscrew the 7 screws. The last screw is hidden under the sticker. Some “craftsmen” try to unscrew these screws with a knife or flat screwdriver. This cannot be done.The thread on the head is easily damaged, and it will no longer be possible to unscrew a screw with a broken thread.
- Using a flathead screwdriver, lift up and remove the back cover of the joystick. This procedure must be carried out extremely delicately in order to avoid damage to the fastenings of the battery contacts.
- Now it’s time to remove the board with the microcircuit. To do this, you need to carefully pry it up with a flat screwdriver from the side of the headphone jack.
ATTENTION! If the purpose of disassembly was to remove dirt, you can stop at this stage. After cleaning, reassemble the joystick in the reverse order.
Now, you can easily release the elastic bands and buttons from the mounting sockets. To remove the “cross” you need to unscrew two screws using a Phillips screwdriver. After this, it can be easily removed by hand.
No additional tool is required to remove the sticks from the board. They come off if you just pull them.
But to disconnect the triggers you will need an auxiliary device, namely a flat-head screwdriver. First you need to lightly press it down from below by pressing on the small indentation located on the inside. Next, using the same screwdriver, carefully push apart the clamps that hold the key and remove the spring. Now the button tilts up and is removed from the socket.
At this stage, the gamepad disassembly procedure is completed. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order and if all elements were carefully disconnected, there should be no problems with it. Again, special care should be taken when installing the back cover to avoid damaging the battery or battery contacts.
