How to set up a joystick on a laptop

There are times when a joystick needs to be connected to a laptop to play a game. But if you just connect a gamepad, it will not work, since you need to configure it and install the necessary drivers. Let's find out what to do.

How to make a connection

The connection consists of three stages:

1. Connecting the device to a laptop.
2. Installing drivers.
3. Setting up a gamepad.

Connection

The joystick is connected as follows:

1. We take the device out of the packaging.
2. Unwind the wires.
3. We connect the joystick plug to the laptop's USB connector.

If the joystick is wireless, you need to turn on Bluetooth and install the receiver.

Drivers

When you connect the gamepad, driver installation should begin automatically. This usually happens in versions of Windows 7 and higher. But if we are using Windows XP, or the automatic installation did not work for other reasons, the driver can be installed from the disk (included with the gamepad) or downloaded from the Internet.

A window appears on the laptop; you just need to click the “Next”, “Install” and “Finish” buttons. Reboot the computer.

Settings

You can start setting up. We do the following:

1. Open "Start".
2. Go to the “Control Panel”.
3. Select the “Devices and Printers” section.
4. We are looking for the name “Joyped” or “Joystick”. Click on its icon twice.
5. A window opens with a menu where the device keys will be assigned.
6. Using the keyboard, next to the name of a specific button, we need to set what action a certain gamepad key will perform.
7. After finishing, you must click the “Save” button.
8. Remember that some device models provide the ability to perform several functions at once by pressing one key. For example, we bought a football simulator and a shooter. In order not to constantly change the functions of the buttons, you can simply change the ready-made set and confirm the changes.
9. Launch the game to check the functionality of the keys.

Reconfiguring the joystick on a laptop is very simple. We only need to perform several actions in the Control Panel. No additional drivers or programs are needed. After successful installation, you can launch the game and play.
