How to choose a home theater
Watching a good movie has long been one of my favorite ways to spend time. There are a great variety of cinemas, and people enjoy watching the latest films in the dark large halls. But in the modern world of high technology, it is not difficult to set up your own high-quality cinema at home. And believe me, watching a film in the offered quality using good digital technology at home will not be much different from watching a film in a specially equipped cinema hall.
To do this, you just have to choose the right one.
There are two main types for watching movies in an apartment:
- You can purchase a ready-made version, which is offered by electronics stores. As a rule, a home theater is already sold as a kit, and there is no need to rack your brains over choosing and assembling parts for a comfortable home movie viewing;
- a more complex, but also high-quality option provides opportunities for choosing the components of modern video equipment.

Which home theater is better to choose for an apartment?
In an average apartment, the choice of a home theater is determined by the area of the room in which it will be installed. As a rule, the living room with the largest area is chosen for these purposes. To choose the right equipment, you need to know what a home theater consists of.
Main components.
- Modern plasma or LCD TV;
- DVD player;
- Speakers with or without subwoofer;
- Projector;
- AV receiver.
The TV must be modern and suitable for the new equipment purchased. Currently, equipment purchased just a few years ago quickly becomes outdated and becomes irrelevant. Therefore, it is worth making sure that your TV is not outdated and has the necessary characteristics to connect the main home theater components to it.
A DVD player is a device that reproduces image and sound from discs and transmits it to an AV receiver.
ADVICE! This device is worth purchasing in Russia because it reads most video and audio formats.
Speakers – home theater speaker system. They create the soundtrack of the film, adding the effect of presence. Without acoustic accompaniment, the sound will become flat and unnatural.
ATTENTION! Experts recommend installing a screen with a diagonal of 32 inches or more in a standard apartment. A smaller screen will be less functional.
There are many sound system options and components:
- speakers with or without a subwoofer. A subwoofer is a device that reproduces low frequencies and enhances special effects when watching a movie.
- the number of speakers directly depends on the area of the room available to us in the apartment. But speakers are divided into several main types: central, front, rear and subwoofer. Each type of speaker is responsible for its own sound part.Thus, the central speaker reproduces the sound track, the front speakers - sound and music effects, the rear speakers - the effect of presence and surround sound, the subwoofer - low-frequency special effects.
The speakers are placed around the perimeter of the room in accordance with a certain arrangement pattern.
- The center speaker is installed next to the TV in the center.
- Front speakers are installed on both sides of the TV at a certain distance (1-1.5 meters).
- The rear speakers should be behind the viewer. They are often suspended from the ceiling to enhance the effect of presence.
There are no clear rules for choosing the location of the subwoofer, but it is usually located near the TV.
An AV receiver is the most important component of a home theater. It is with its help that high-quality multi-channel sound is created, as in a real cinema hall.
IMPORTANT! The power of the receiver directly depends on the area of the room. The larger the area of the room, the more powerful it is worth choosing a receiver, and vice versa. For example, for a room with an area of 15–25 square meters. m. the receiver is chosen with a power of 100 W, for a room less than 15 sq. m. m. – 50 W.
Projectors are necessary to watch a movie in complete darkness. The main unit to pay attention to is its aperture ratio, measured in ANSI lumens. Projectors are sold in different resolutions. For apartment conditions, a universal option would be a projector with a resolution of 1280X800 or a little more pixels. In addition, the projector affects color accuracy and contrast depth.
What to look for when choosing a cinema.
- You need to decide on a price range. The price range is wide, and you should start from the budget allocated for the purchase of a new product.
- The equipment and main characteristics will depend on the area of the available premises. Premium cinemas are an unjustified waste of money for a standard room of 20 square meters. m. Such equipment will not fully reveal its functionality.
- The technical characteristics you need. Manufacturers of technical devices provide consumers with a large number of opportunities. Availability of wi-fi, Bluetooth, Smart TV, Airplay, NFC chip and others. All these subtleties are worth understanding.
Manufacturers offer a variety of models. With so many, it’s easy to get confused. Manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony, LG, Philips are considered leaders in this area. Among the more expensive price ranges, we can highlight such manufacturers for true music lovers as Onkyo and Harman/Kordon.
