The Swedish direction of interior design is focused on the unhindered distribution and multiple reflection of sunlight. That is why it is customary to say that the Scandinavian style is reluctant to accept curtains. But, fortunately, if you approach the problem wisely, even the light-loving northern interior can be made more intimate and understandable by adapting it with suitable window framing.

Natural translucent fabrics are best suited for these purposes: linen, silk, cotton, muslin or muslin. In this case, the color scheme is selected based on the basic shades used when decorating the walls. This means that monotonous white, milky and beige curtains may be the best option.

Delicate pastel shades of gray, blue or green are used a little less often.. But in this case, you will need to tie it to the corresponding centers of color, diluting the whiteness of the northern interior.

As for the form, there is only one rule: maximum simplicity and functionality, excluding decorative excesses.Ruffles, lambrequins, fringe, and lace are strictly prohibited. The only luxury allowed is tiebacks made of the same material as the curtains themselves.

When choosing curtains, do not forget about practicality - its Scandinavian style welcomes and encourages. This means that for each room you can choose the most convenient curtain option.

In the kitchen, for example, it is most convenient to use blinds. This means that you shouldn’t go far from the proven option - Roman and roller blinds made of light translucent materials of a suitable color will perfectly complement the interior. Pleated blinds will look no less attractive.

In the living room It is customary to use more magnificent window frames, with the help of which you can diffuse bright light and regulate air flows in winter. This does not contradict the rules of the Scandinavian style, so long straight curtains for the living room will be an excellent choice.

The same principle works in the bedroom And children's. But here we need more effective protection from light, which translucent curtains cannot provide. Therefore, they can be supplemented with another layer - Roman or roller blinds made of denser material.

The final touch is the cornice

When looking at interior photos, it’s hard not to notice that the gaze does not linger for long on the curtain fabric, smoothly moving to the features of the furniture or stopping at flashes of color.

This effect is explained, among other things, by the inconspicuousness of the cornice, which is most often performed in two simple versions:

• hidden in a special niche - ceiling - creates the effect of floating curtains;
• round wall, painted in the same color as the fabric of the curtains and thanks to this it does not stand out against their background.

This does not mean that other cornices will not fit into the Scandinavian style. It’s just that these options best suit him due to their laconic functionality.
