Ceiling decoration with clapboard in a wooden house
During renovations, questions constantly arise that often become a headache for homeowners. How to cover the ceiling in a room? What is best to use for this? After all, you want to make it both beautiful and practical, and it would be nice if the material were environmentally friendly. The modern market is replete with various types of finishing, but experts recommend using lining. It has become widespread in construction. It is used not only to decorate ceilings, but also walls.
Reference. The origin of the name of the material is very interesting. Once upon a time on the railway, freight cars (and not only) were trimmed with wooden slats. After some time, they began to be used for residential premises. This is where the common name for this building material came from - lining.
Its main advantage is naturalness. Rooms where the ceilings are covered with it do not lose their ability to “breathe”. Wood creates its own natural microclimate in the room. When there is excess moisture, it is absorbed, and if there is not enough moisture, it is released.

Work on finishing the ceiling with clapboard in a wooden house
If we compare lining with other materials, its installation does not require immediate execution. In the midst of work, you can take a break.In this case, nothing will happen to the finishing. However, so that the work does not stretch over a long period, it is better to prepare everything you need in advance.
Tools
First of all, you should stock up on the necessary tools:
- hacksaw or electric jigsaw;
- before attaching the frame under the sheathing, you need to drill holes, and for this you will need an electric drill;
- you will need a bubble level;
- rubberized hammer;
- rightsAndlo;
- tape measure and corner for taking dimensions of the surface to be finished and measuring materials;
- a construction or simple stationery pencil for making marks on wood or the surface of a wall/ceiling.
Attention. When working with the material, you should remember that the joining of the lining has its own specifics. To connect elements that have a groove and a tongue, they will need to be tapped in the grooves. This should be done with a rubber hammer, otherwise there is a high probability of damaging the connecting element.
Ceiling preparation
The inside of the room should be sheathed after the work on the outside of the home has been completed. No matter how good a house made of wood is, it also has its drawbacks, which should not be forgotten when starting finishing work.
The first problem you will have to face is high humidity. It can contribute to the development of various fungi and molds. Sheathing should begin with preparatory work. Installation must be carried out on a completely dry and level surface. The presence of any defects may negatively affect the final result.
All surfaces of walls and ceilings should be treated with a product that prevents the formation of fungi and mold.Any antiseptic preparations that are sold in construction stores can cope with this.
Attention! All walls and ceilings should be treated, even if there are no signs of fungal infection on them.
If necessary, before starting the installation of the lining, the ceiling and walls are insulated. You can immediately insulate from noise. Any mineral wool material is used as insulation. A vapor barrier film serves this purpose well.
It should be mounted in such a way that the edges overlap. The process is carried out directly on the ceiling surface. A construction stapler is used for fastening. The bars are fixed to the insulation.
As soon as the preparation of the ceiling and walls is completed, you can begin to install the frame that will support the lining itself.
For its manufacture, a metal profile or wooden beams are used. Installation of the frame depends on how the lining will lie. If it is located horizontally, then it should be placed vertically, and vice versa. The first step is to take care of the slats for the base of the frame. Their width should not exceed thirty millimeters.
Regardless of the method of fastening the lining, the batten is first installed vertically. Verticality will need to be checked with a level.
Attention. The subsequent quality of installation will depend on how smoothly the first rail is installed. To control the plane of the linings, you can use tensioned threads. All frame elements will be installed correctly if you keep a guideline on them.
The slats for the sheathing must be placed so that there is half a meter between them.At the end of the work, the entire sheathing is treated with an antiseptic. This completes all preliminary manipulations. Now the lining itself can be secured.
Lining of the lining
After installing the sheathing, the most interesting and important stage begins - finishing. It’s a good idea to have a partner for work:
- The first plank is installed directly to the wall. A special spike is used to fix it. The subsequent ones are fixed perpendicular to the sheathing.
- Before attaching the next plank, its position must be checked with a level.
- The next lining is inserted into the groove of the previous one. Where the planks are adjacent to the frame, they need to be fixed.
- Other linings should be installed similarly. It is known from practice that the closing strip most often needs trimming. To hide the seam, it should be placed so that it is as little visible to others as possible. When installing the strips, you should simultaneously mark the holes where the lighting fixtures will be located, as well as various communications. The panels should be fastened firmly.
- After the installation of the lining is completed, a plinth is laid along the perimeter of the ceiling. It must be matched to it and made of wood. A varnish coating is applied over the finish. As an option, you can use paint.
Ceiling decoration
Any owner tries to use in design all the advantages that exist in terms of decorating beams, beams and log houses.
You can design beams in the following ways:
- chandeliers or other lighting fixtures are installed;
- artistic painting is applied;
- decorations are made from textiles;
- using LED lights, additional illumination is created;
- forged hooks, various ties and other accessories are attached to the beams;
- pots of flowers are hung.
Types of lining
When you mention lining, associations arise with something wooden. Indeed, classic finishing is made from this material, but the industry does not stand still. New technologies have made it possible to create products using completely different raw materials. The design may be different, but their shape and installation method always remain the same. Based on the material that goes into the production of lining, the following types are distinguished.
Wooden
This option is environmentally friendly. Walls and ceilings with such cladding breathe well. They can be painted or the texture can be “revealed” with varnish. Since wood comes in different classes, there are four types of lining:
- Extra is a product of excellent quality. There are no defects on the surface. It is reliable in use. However, its cost is high. This type of lining is popular for exterior and interior decoration. Due to its thickness, it is often used in the construction of frame buildings. The texture has a beautiful design.
- “A” - production technology allows for the presence of some knots. However, the quality of the lining is not inferior to extra.
- “B” - the material has sufficient strength to be used for finishing. But this class involves various surface defects. Similar lining is used in baths, as well as on balconies.
- “C” refers to the most inexpensive products. Due to its low quality, it is used for commercial buildings, as well as non-residential premises.
Reference. Wood lining varies in shape. Based on this, it is classified into regular and euro.The appearance of the latter is very similar to natural wood.
Plastic
The main purpose of plastic lining is to finish the ceiling. This is a very fragile material and, if used for wall cladding, it may not withstand the load placed on it.
The panels come in a variety of colors and completely different textures. This variety allows you to choose lining for any style room. Plastic should not be used to decorate a kitchen or bathroom. They have high humidity, which negatively affects the finish of this material.
Panels that imitate the surface of marble, granite or natural wood are very popular among buyers. Due to the significant thickness and high strength of the plastic lining, the material is quite suitable not only for interior decoration, but also for exterior decoration.
MDF
It is very similar to natural wood, it is easy and simple to install, and is available in a huge variety of colors. This is the best choice to decorate the ceiling or walls. MDF has a main drawback - it is afraid of moisture. A wet panel becomes deformed and delaminates. Not only the shapes and sizes of the lining differ. They may or may not have chamfers. This leads to the classification of material into types:
- Normal - the surface of the product is flat. The front side is equipped with an additional chamfer, which creates a decorative seam after installation. It may have an angular or rounded appearance.
- “Calm” - due to the lack of a chamfer, there are no seams left after the sheathing. Timber walls are well imitated with this material. The thickness of the panels does not exceed 25 millimeters.
- "Landhouse" is the most expensive type of material.This difference in price is due to the special technologies used for its manufacture. In addition, the front side of the board is processed with a milling cutter. This allows you to get a wood grain.
- “Block house” is made in the form of a profile to imitate timber cladding. The front side of the board is rounded. Once the assembly of the entire wall is completed, the external appearance will give the impression that the house is made of logs.
Recommendations for the selection and installation of lining will help you purchase high-quality material and properly decorate the ceiling with it.
