During the repair and installation of a stretch ceiling, it is necessary to install lighting, provide ventilation, or simply screw in a self-tapping screw, for example, to secure a cornice. To do this you will need a gap in the suspended ceiling. Often you have to do it yourself. To cut a hole safely for the material, you need to know the rules and techniques.

Is it possible to make a hole in a suspended ceiling?

The answer is clear - you can. Lighting, curtain panels are installed on the finished structure. Their fixation may vary, but a hole is still necessary.

Installing a pipe is exactly the case when a hole is made before the ceiling is stretched.

When it is necessary?

The most common and simple reason is the installation of lighting and repair work if the canvas is damaged. Also installation of ventilation and exhaust hoods. To achieve a high-quality result, installation is carried out carefully, according to the recommendations of specialists.

Tools and materials

Stretch ceiling is a synthetic fabric that is impregnated with a protective solution or represented by a polyvinyl chloride film. Designs are divided into several types:

• PVC. The material is not durable and breaks even with the smallest cut.Near devices, the canvas becomes thinner and loses its functionality. Therefore, before installing additional devices, this place is thickened.

How to cut a hole in a suspended ceiling?

The fabric is laid out on a smooth surface. Mark and make a hole of suitable size and type. Use scissors or a construction knife.

For chandelier

To install volumetric lighting in the center of the room, you will need special rings with a diameter of 300 mm. They will protect the fabric from high temperatures when the device is turned on. Cut out a circle measuring 6–7 cm. Sometimes the parameters differ. A ring is attached to the marked place, then a hole is made with a knife.

For pipe

The finished plastic outline is glued to the fabric until it is stretched. The thickening should reach the edge of the ceiling. Then they do hole in the shape of a star, bend the edges and make a cut to the end. This will be needed to attach the ring to the pipe.

For lamps

Self-tapping

You will need small pieces of material and cyanoacrylate glue. A hole is cut in the planned location, carefully lubricated and glued to the ceiling. After the glue has set, you will get a durable layer for fastening.

Remaining materials are replaced with reinforced tape. Just stick a small piece to the canvas and make an entrance for the screw.

Under the hood

You need to take a sharp utility knife and make a cut along the inner edge of the tread ring. The device is placed in it and attached to a previously prepared platform.

Ventilation hole

Most often, a relatively large square or rectangle is cut out. To enlarge, purchase a pass-through frame. After removing from the baguette, retreating at least 40 cm, cut a hole of a suitable size. The edge of the film is glued to the mounting groove of the frame. Then the device is put in place using a strip and glue.
