How to Make 4 Easy DIY Home Decorations

Everyone wants to decorate their own apartment beautifully. However, often “decorations” require significant investments of hard cash. Even just re-pasting the wallpaper is not that cheap. This is where crafts come to the rescue! Anyone can create a couple of beautiful decorations for their home, such as designer pillowcases, garlands or felt paintings. I will tell you about them today.

Bright softness

Blue painted pillows

Pillows often end up on display in bedrooms or on sofas. By decorating them, or rather the pillowcases on them, you can update the look of the room. In addition, painting is the most affordable way to decorate anything. In the case of fabric, it is best to use acrylic paints - they remain stable even after washing. The process itself is completely simple:

  1. A protective covering (unnecessary piece of wood or regular film) is placed inside the pillowcase.
  2. The drawing surface is firmly fixed, or even better, stretched onto the canvas.
  3. The area where the artwork will be placed is limited with masking tape.
  4. The desired pattern is applied using any convenient means. The main thing is not to overdo it with the amount of paint on the instrument.
  5. The resulting composition is dried for.

The second way to make original sofa cushions is embroidery. However, you will have to work with it much longer, and you will need more skills. Drawing will take much less man-hours.

Felt, but not a hat

Felt tree painting

However, something artistic can be created not only with the help of paints. However, your next decoration will require minimal sewing skills. I'm talking, of course, about felt crafts. This material is usually used for brooches and patches, but nothing prevents you from making a large applique out of it and inserting it into a frame. The process is incredibly simple:

  1. First you need to find a picture that you want to transfer to reality. Minimalistic, polygonal or vector “art” is ideal.
  2. The picture is created in layers. For a tree, for example, the background will come first, then the trunk, foliage and fruits. The layers are sewn together with invisible threads.
  3. Small details can be added with threads of other colors.
  4. The finished painting just needs to be placed in a frame.

With the help of felt you can even create something voluminous! However, for this you will have to adapt and order stuffing for soft toys. But even a simple image will look unusual due to its multi-layered nature.

Who said it has to glow?

Garland with postcard

A garland is another simple way to decorate your interior. And I'm not talking about those glowing lights that hang on Christmas trees for the New Year. This decoration can be much more original. For example, you can print out a couple dozen memorable photographs and make a garland out of them, attaching them to string with small clothespins. Or cut out flags or paper lanterns yourself. The only limit is imagination and a sense of beauty.

Decor from the sweltering heat

Continuing the theme of creativity, I would like to highlight such a universal thing as baked polymer clay. To work with it, you only need a stove (oven or microwave) and a simple set of tools. You can buy it at a stationery store, just like the clay itself. You shouldn’t be afraid of prices - wooden devices are cheap, and by and large they are not necessary. For starters, you can try making small, minimalistic animals out of clay. Let them chill on the windowsill, decorating the interior. And once you get your hands full, you can move on to pots, figurines and other designer decorative elements.

Working with baked clay is easy:

  1. First you need to knead it well and roll it out on the table (the main thing is not to forget to put down unnecessary oilcloth).
  2. Then separate a piece of the required size and begin to sculpt.
  3. The finished figurine must be sent to the oven according to the clay manufacturer's instructions.
  4. If cracks appear on the product after the heat, you need to cover them with the same clay and bake again.
  5. It should be painted after the oven. You can even use ordinary gouache for this.
