How to power the scales from the network
Electronic scales are in great demand. They are convenient and accurate, and have a wide range of applications. They are used in various laboratories, industry, trade, and by housewives in the kitchen. Due to their high precision, they are gradually replacing mechanical options from the market.

Operating principle of scales
Electronic scales are primarily distinguished from the mechanical version by the presence of a display that displays information about the resulting weighing results. They also differ in the operating principle itself. The accuracy of electronic ones is much higher than that of mechanical ones and is approximately 0.1 g, while for mechanical ones it is 1 g.
Inexpensive models have a spring installed. When weighing, its vibrations are transmitted to an electronic circuit and processed by it. After which the final result is displayed on the display.
More expensive models are equipped with some kind of disc capacitors. The mass of the object being weighed puts pressure on one of them, causing the capacitor to shift. The distance between these disks increases and information about this is transmitted to the electronic circuit. The electronics processes the received information, converting the distance between the capacitors into ground and displaying the result on the display.
The most expensive scales do not have mechanical elements in their design and weighing occurs entirely using electronics.All mechanics have been replaced with a sensitive voltage sensor. When weighing, this sensor changes its tension, as a result of which the magnitude of the electrical signal and resistance change. This information is converted into information about the mass of the object and displayed on the display.
Types and nutrition
The device can be powered in three ways: from batteries, power supplies or solar panels. But you can change the power type and replace the batteries with a power outlet.
All scales differ in: accuracy, functionality, purpose.
They also have several varieties:
- Household - table scales, kitchen scales, floor scales for measuring body weight, electronic steelyards;
- Trade - product and printing labels (used in self-service stores);
- High-precision laboratory scales;
- Medical for weighing children;
- Crane - installed on a crane for weighing large cargo;
- Industrial - to determine the mass of heavy objects;
Each type has its own requirements - the magnitude of the error, accuracy, weighing speed, information content and reliability.
Operating conditions for scales
In order for measuring instruments to serve for a long time, it is necessary to follow all operating rules.
Necessary conditions for using the scales:
- Temperature: 10 – 40 C;
- Air humidity: no more than 80%;
- Mains power: 200V;
- Continuous use time: maximum 16 hours;
- Power consumption: maximum 14 W;
In addition, the scale must be installed on a level surface. The legs of the measuring device are used for adjustment, and a liquid level must be placed on the scales. After the level is set, the legs must be locked.
REFERENCE! The operating instructions that come with the measuring instruments indicate the operating conditions for each specific model. The minimum and maximum weighing limits are also indicated.
How to power the scales from a 220 V network
Many household scales are powered by batteries, which is not very convenient, since such a battery does not last long. And then the owners have a question: is it possible to supply power from an outlet.
To do this, you can use either a universal power supply, or purchase a unit for a radio or cell phone. As a rule, they have the same output voltage of 9 V. You also need to know the current consumption. Devices powered by AAA or Krona batteries usually have low consumption. To create power you will need:
- Multimeter for taking measurements;
- Rectifier, also known as power supply;
- Soldering iron;
At the same time, everything must be done extremely carefully. You must first read the operating instructions. In the technical specifications section, information about power supply, required voltage and current consumption is indicated.
Carefully! If the scale body has metal parts, they may be live.
