Where to store the iron and ironing board
Have you found a convenient place for the iron? And the ironing board was removed out of sight, but not far? And for many this still remains a problem. Each housewife solves it in her own way. Let's try to find the most suitable places for these items.

What kind of storage space should there be?
The dimensions of the ironing board allow you to hide it in any crevice - behind a closet, behind curtains, behind doors, under a sofa. It’s possible to hide it, but it’s not always convenient to get a rather cumbersome structure out of this gap, which periodically tries to “bite” your fingers.
Some leave the board open to view: convenient, but not very aesthetically pleasing. At the same time as the board, you have to look for a place for its constant companion - the iron. It’s not difficult to remove it, but there is a caveat! Immediately after use it is hot, so it can damage the shelf or nearby objects.
My own experience suggests the requirements for places to store the iron and board:
- you need a space that is closed from view; ironing equipment is difficult to fit into the interior of the room;
- the dimensions of the storage for the board must correspond to its dimensions;
- The place for the iron should be well ventilated to cool the hot electrical appliance.
Important! The material in a secluded place must be resistant to high temperatures.Otherwise, you will have to cool the iron first, making sure that no one in the household touches the hot sole. And only then clean it up.
A convenient place will be one from which it will not be difficult to get the necessary items at any time.
Iron storage options
The iron is not so large that it is impossible to find a secluded place for it. Most housewives do not look for it very creatively: they place a hot object on the windowsill so that it cools down there. And they forget about it until the next ironing.
But there are more elegant solutions.
In a chest of drawers or furniture drawer
For an iron you can select a shelf in the chest of drawers, in one of the furniture drawers.
Important! When storing the iron on shelves made of wood or chipboard, you need to take care of a hot stand that will protect the surfaces from damage.
In a case
An equally elegant option that eliminates financial costs, but requires time and perseverance: sew a box cover, for example, using the patchwork technique.
She will need unnecessary clothes or beautiful rags. You can even put the iron in such an elegant case on an open shelf, where it will become an interior decoration.
In the closet
Don't like the "rustic" look of the case? Then you have to go to the hardware store and choose holder for iron and ironing board.
Mobile designs are available for sale that can be hung on any door from above. And there are holders that are screwed to the wall or the inside of the door of any cabinet that is suitable in size.
Advice! The holder can be attached not only to the cabinet door, but also to the interior door.
How to store your ironing board
It’s good if there is a place for the board in the pantry or in the utility closet. What if you looked at all possible niches, and none of them suits you? And you won’t be able to order a household cabinet according to your size: too expensive? And the idea of a place on the balcony or in the closet doesn’t work either? Let's find another place!
Choosing a storage location
It is a pity that the architects did not think about the dressing room or laundry room at the stage of designing residential buildings. If they were in every apartment, then the problem of storing a board with an iron would disappear by itself.
Most living spaces have “hidden features.”
In the closet
The most natural solution is to store the board inside the wardrobe. Some manufacturers, apparently, themselves once solved a similar problem, so they included in their products a high, narrow section that accommodates both a “ironing iron” and an iron.
You can take this solution as a model and make a similar compartment inside an existing cabinet with your own hands. Here the board will definitely not get dusty and will be hidden from prying eyes.
On the wall
- For example, were you planning to hang a picture on an unoccupied wall? Please! But it can also be hung on a box, inside of which the board will be hidden.
- A similar technique is a mirror that masks a cover for the board. By the way, you don’t have to do all this yourself, you can buy it.
- In the children's room it is appropriate to attach an ironing board with a magnetic marker surface.
We organize a place for ironing and storing boards
Another option is to create a permanent ironing area. And hide the inventory there.
Will help with this retractable and built-in ironing boards.
Among them there are those that even fit into a kitchen drawer! And there are entire ironing complexes. In appearance, these are ordinary cabinets or chests of drawers, inside of which there are shelves for linen.
Advice! When arranging an ironing corner, it is important to think through such “little things” as the proximity of an outlet, the “passability” of the room, the need for additional items, for example, a chair or a bedside table for linen.
Why is it important? It is clear that there are extension cords, but households, especially children, do not always pay attention to the wires. They will stumble, fall, knock over the iron. What if it’s on your leg? This is about the outlet. Now about the “cross-country ability”. When rooms are small or heavily cluttered, a loose board can make it difficult to move from one room to another.
Advice! Before choosing any option, you need to answer one more question: is it convenient to iron here?
Check to see if in this place the wire will get under the sole of the iron, and your elbow will crash into the shelf behind your back.
Are you happy with the location? Then we organize the space in accordance with our own ideal and budget.
