What causes error e1 in a dishwasher? What is it and why does it occur?

When an E1 error appears in a dishwasher, you can say for sure that this is due to a leak, a clogged drain system, or a malfunction of the sensor. This article explains how to accurately determine the cause and what needs to be done to repair it.

Reasons for appearance

If the dishwasher shows error E1, this means that the leakage sensor has tripped. It determines whether there is water in the pan located below or not. The sensor is one of the elements of the Aqua-stop system. It is specially equipped to start the drain pump if necessary. It will pump out water until the sensor determines that there is no liquid and the threat of flooding has already been eliminated.

Error e1

Therefore, if Hans’s dishwasher detected an E1 error, this may indicate 5 possible reasons:

  1. A leak has started - most often liquid appears at the joints of the hoses. Elements such as the drain or recirculation pump may also be damaged. Less commonly, problems are related to the tank. Thanks to the special design of the pipe through which water is supplied, the liquid, even in the event of a leak, enters the pan from below, as a result of which the sensor is triggered. In this case, the supply tap is blocked automatically using the “aqua-stop” system.
  2. The Kerting dishwasher rarely produces an e1 error due to a breakdown of the sensor itself. Over time, it may fail or freeze while shorted. As a result, the “aqua-stop” system will work, the machine will show that a leak has started, although in reality there will not be one. The sensor will need to be repaired or replaced.
  3. There are also cases when the Crohn dishwasher detects error e1 due to problems with the contacts. Those. The sensor itself is fully functional, but there are problems with the connection. They are observed due to oxidation, moisture ingress, and burnout.
  4. The filter installed in front of the inlet valve or the valve itself is clogged. Over time, they can suffer from food particles, dirt, and wear out a little. As a rule, repairs come down to removing each element, cleaning it and putting it back. If necessary, it is replaced with a new one.
  5. Finally, when a Krona dishwasher shows error e1, this can also be explained by an electronic malfunction, i.e. failure in the control module. It receives data from each sensor, processes it and, in the event of a malfunction, determines the error code. But sometimes this element can also break and the breakdown can be incorrectly diagnosed. Typically, such cases are observed after sudden power surges in the network.

Can I fix the error myself?

When the dishwasher showed error e1, it is not always easy to determine the exact cause. There are several steps you need to follow as described below.

Clearing the blockage

Quite often the cause of the error is related to clogging of the filter and other elements. To verify this, it is necessary to sequentially dismantle and inspect them, and, if necessary, rinse them under water. You should proceed like this:

  1. Turn off the machine and turn off the water tap.Even if the aqua-stop system works, it is better not to take risks and prevent possible flooding.Turn off the tap on the water supply
  2. Disconnect the water intake hose.
  3. Inspect it and the mesh for blockages and, if necessary, rinse under the tap.
  4. Then open the hopper door and remove the basket from below.
  5. Dismantle the drain filter (it’s easy enough to unscrew it), and also wash it under pressure.Drain filter
  6. Then unscrew the screws around the perimeter of the filter mounting location.
  7. Pull out the flap and remove it.
  8. It is necessary to check the impeller and remove any blockages.

Fixing a leak

If the Krona dishwasher shows error e3 or e1, it may turn out that water has already entered the pan. To prevent flooding, do the following:

  1. Turn off the machine and turn off the tap.
  2. Remove the desired panel (for example, in the case of the Hansa dishwasher, it is located on the left).
  3. Remove the air tube that goes to the sensor.Dismantling the tube
  4. Drain the water from the pan and determine the location of the leak. Doing this on your own is not always easy - if you cannot find a specific source, it is better to contact a specialist. The machine itself is disconnected from the water supply during operation so that the water supply tap can be opened again.

Replacing wiring or sensor

If after this the dishwasher still gives error e1, you need to “ring” each element of the electrical circuit going to the sensor with a multimeter. After finding the break point, it is eliminated, the contacts are cleaned or replaced with new ones if necessary. If this does not help, then the problem is related to the sensor. It is in the closed position and detects the presence of a leak, which in fact is not there. This element cannot be repaired; a new part must be installed.

Control module failure

It also happens that Crohn dishwasher error codes appear again. If this is due, for example, to a power surge, you must unplug the unit from the outlet, wait 15 minutes and turn it on again.

If this does not help, you will need to diagnose the control module. Some of the contacts in it could have oxidized or burned out - then you will have to determine the location of the fault, solder the tracks, or completely replace the board. Such repairs can only be carried out if you have the appropriate experience.

If your Teka dishwasher shows an E1 error, first of all you should turn it off and close the tap. Then inspect the bottom pan and, if water appears, determine the source of the leak. It is important to ensure that the cause of the error is diagnosed correctly. If in doubt, it is better to contact a specialist.
