We are learning how to remove the top cover of a washing machine. We disassemble the washing machine correctly
There are several ways to remove the top cover of a washing machine. The choice of specific instructions depends on what kind of device you need to deal with. Front-loading models are most often used, although vertical devices are also available. The action algorithm for each case is described in the article.

Which cars can have the cover removed?
First of all, you need to figure out which units have the top cover that can be removed. It should be mentioned here that there are 2 types of washing machines:
- Frontal.
- Vertical.
The first are classic models in which things are loaded from the side, i.e. open the door on the front panel and place it in the drum. It is not difficult to figure out how to remove the lid from this type of washing machine. Simply unscrew the bolts and remove the panel.
But there are also top-loading machines in which the lid opens in order to put clothes. This panel can also be removed - to do this, remove the fastening bolts on one side.
It is worth considering that in some cases it will not be possible to remove the lid from the washing machine. Each model has its own characteristics; some types have non-removable top panels. Devices that were produced before 2012 are especially often equipped with such covers.
Step-by-step instruction
Understanding how to remove the lid of a washing machine is not difficult. This operation is necessary in cases where you need to gain access to sensors, wiring or other parts. The sequence of actions is as follows:
- To remove the top cover of the washing machine, you first need to turn off the power and pull it out. Next, go to the back side and unscrew the fasteners.
- Next, the lid is gently pushed backwards to move it away, as shown in the photo.
- Now it’s clear how to remove the front cover of the washing machine. The moment the panel leaves the guide groove, you can remove it. Next, you can begin to inspect and repair damaged parts.
- Next, the panel is placed back and secured with fasteners.
If the machine is top loading
It is quite clear that the design of the Indesit top-loading washing machine is somewhat different from the classic front-loading models described above. In this case, the removal instructions are as follows:
- It is not difficult to understand how to open the top cover of a washing machine. It is regularly opened before and after washing. But to start disassembling, you need to act differently. First, the unit is disconnected from the network.
- Next, unscrew the 2 screws under the control panel (they are located on the left and right, shown in the photo).
- Lift the control unit - it gives in easily, no additional effort is required.
- The next step in the instructions on how to remove the top cover involves repairing the parts that are inside. Often, rust and smudges collect on the inside of the plastic case. They must be eliminated.
- Then, if necessary, they repair other elements, install new spare parts, after which they return the cover to its place and tighten the screws again.
Why do you remove the lid?
The instructions on how to disassemble the Indesit WISL 82 washing machine or other models describe both the process itself and its tasks. Dismantling is necessary to repair various parts, for example:
- Fill valve is a pump that supplies washing liquid. As a rule, it is located at the back in one of the corners.
- Tray for pouring powder and conditioner. It is pulled out in several stages. To do this, you need to pull the plastic part towards you and slightly loosen it from side to side. Next, you should grab the body (but do not take the handle) and lift it up, while simultaneously pulling it towards you.
- There is also such an important detail as a pressure switch. This is the name of the sensor that monitors the liquid level. If the water drains slowly or at the wrong time, repairs or replacement of spare parts will be required.
- Concrete top counterweight - it does not break on its own with only rare exceptions. But this part will need to be removed if access to the drum, bearings or oil seal is required.
- A surge protector is a special element that dampens power surges and protects the machine from them. It will need to be replaced if there is a sudden drop in the network or a burning smell appears.
- Finally, you may need to replace the lid of a top-loading washing machine or classic front-loading models. In this case, it is completely dismantled, a new panel is installed and bolted.
Complex cases
In practice, it is not always easy to understand how to remove the top cover from a washing machine. There are also difficult cases when the panel is attached differently. This is especially often observed in Ardo models. The instructions for removing the panel are as follows:
- First, remove the screws and lift the lid.
- Next, raise the panel again and simultaneously move it forward.
- If it doesn’t work out, you need to feel the right angle at which it is convenient to work. After a few attempts, you will be able to remove the panel.
There is no need to doubt whether it is possible to remove the lid from the washing machine. This is a completely simple operation, which can only sometimes cause some difficulties. There is no need to call a professional for dismantling. But if there are doubts about the correctness of further repair actions, for example, a pressure switch, it is better to contact a specialist.
