Is it true that hot water is more effective than cold water?

People usually use hot water to do laundry and wash dishes. When we clear the table, this is completely justified, but washing things this way is not always logical. What's the matter? Let's try to figure it out below.

Cold wash - myths and reality

The main arguments in favor of hot water are “grandmother’s” suggestions:

  • cold water cannot remove heavy dirt, which means that the item cannot be washed efficiently;
  • Laundry detergent granules only dissolve at higher temperatures.

We hasten to dispel these myths and outdated ideas about cold washing:

  • Forget about worrying about the cleanliness of your dress. Modern powders can remove any dirt in the form of stains, regardless of temperature. A good detergent guarantees excellent results even in cold water. Various bleaches, equipped with special “chemistry,” penetrate deeply between the fibers and wash away any dirt. Foam generators for some types of washing machines are an excellent help. Here the powder is completely dissolved in water, and then this solution enters the drum.
  • The powder consumption to obtain the best possible result is absolutely the same as in hot water, and does not increase a bit. Moreover, some stains in hot water only “stick” to the fabric more and do not disappear.

  • The claim that items are disinfected during hot washing has not been justified. Most of the bacteria die during drying in the fresh air.. It is best to pre-soak towels for the kitchen and bath in a detergent solution and only then wash them.
  • When choosing the wrong washing temperature, many people face the problem of hopelessly damaged items. With the cold mode, you have nothing to fear from structural changes in matter, especially wool and others from the category of “delicate” and “sensitive”. Your favorite item will not shrink to a child's size and will not turn into an enormous robe; multiple holes will not appear on it, disturbing the structure of the fabric.
  • The fabric will remain bright and juicy for a long time, whereas in hot water a beautiful red blouse can become faded with a dirty tint. For some types of matter such exposure is generally contraindicated.
  • Cold water will also get rid of such a nuisance as white stripes of various shapes on washed clothes. This is especially true for dark things. They spoil your appearance and reduce your sense of self-confidence.
  • Cold rinsing better and more successfully removes soap solution from the space between the threads of fabric. This is facilitated by surface tension, when droplets of soap, taking the form of balls, are easily washed out of the fabric.

To properly rinse the item, you must follow the following rules:

  • fabric made from natural threads absorbs soap solution well and requires longer rinsing;
  • synthetics and natural fabrics are incompatible, so they are rinsed separately;
  • You should wash things at least three times, and squeeze them well each time so that the powder “goes away” along with the water;
  • special attention to clothes for children and linen - they are rinsed up to five times;
  • A small amount of antistatic agent will prevent the accumulation of static electricity in things.

Cold water and dishes

Our hands are much more comfortable in warm water, so housewives always open a hot tap.

If the kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, then it doesn’t matter what water you use to wash it with.

Important! A good liquid product will perfectly break down fat and cope with any dirt even in cold water. All that remains is to take out the plates and place them on the shelf.

Bonus

A significant “advantage” of hot washing is the “increase” of kilowatts. Its frequent use in everyday life greatly increases the consumption of electricity, which hurts the wallet.

If you reconsider your habits, which are hardly justified, then payment receipts will no longer be so frightening with their total amounts.

Important! When you turn on the washing machine, most of the electricity is consumed to heat the water. And this is a lot - 90% of the total.

Cold mode eliminates all these problems. So you should only use hot wash when absolutely necessary.

Comments and feedback:

I agree that washing at high temperatures is already a meaningless myth, I have a hotpoint machine and it does laundry perfectly well at 20 degrees)
