Why can the hatch glass on a washing machine break?
Door glass is present in horizontal loading washing machines. Complete with a door, it prevents water from leaking from the drum. A crack is a rare, but serious failure, leading to the impossibility of further operation of the machine. Glass, or rather high-strength plastic, is designed to withstand impacts from metal buttons and buckles even at maximum spin speed.

Why the sunroof glass may burst: reasons
However, even such material is not immune to cracks for several reasons:
- A manufacturing defect can cause a crack to appear due to a defect in the installation of the hatch or a defect in the plastic that arose during its manufacture.
- Mechanical damage as a result of a machine falling or a powerful blow to the hatch with a heavy object, both from the outside and from the inside.
- The presence of a metal object when the drum is significantly overloaded.
- Violation of the uniform movement of the drum, increasing the pressure of the washed laundry on the hatch door.
Important! If a barely noticeable crack appears, the glass should be replaced immediately to avoid serious defects during high-temperature washing.
Rules for operating the glass hatch of a washing machine
Opinion of a service center (SC) specialist:
“25% of malfunctions are resolved after reading the operating instructions. And if you read it right away, then another 60% of malfunctions will never happen at all.”
To protect the hatch from damage, it is enough to follow a few simple operating rules:
- Choose a place for the washing machine where the door can open freely, without contact with other nearby objects.
- Before washing, check the contents of the pockets.
- Fasten metal buttons and zippers before washing and turn the clothes inside out so that they are on the inside.
- If the door gasket is damaged, replace it as soon as possible.
Important! You should not try to seal the crack or seal it yourself. Breaking glass during spinning can lead to unpredictable consequences.
If the machine is under warranty, you should contact the service center for free repairs. If you refuse, you can go to court, which will order an examination.
Representatives of service centers believe that glass self-destructs extremely rarely; it is broken by users due to non-compliance with operating rules.
Opinion of a SC specialist:
“By the nature of the injuries received, it is possible to determine with a high degree of probability the cause of the damage. Then you can contact the manufacturer and it is quite possible that your problem will be solved.”
