How to bleed a washing machine so that it runs quieter and things don’t smell
Many owners of washing machines are faced with a situation where it begins to work worse over time. This can manifest itself in different ways: it begins to make noise, an unpleasant odor appears (which sometimes transfers to the laundry), it does not rinse out the powder well, it vibrates strongly during the spin cycle.
Of course, most people ignore such problems, believing that the machine has done its job, and therefore all these troubles are a natural state of affairs. But this is absolutely not true. With proper care, equipment can serve faithfully for more than 10 years and at the same time work properly - without failures. We will tell you what you need to do regularly to “pump up” your automatic machine for high-quality operation.

Powder tray
It is foolish to think that a tray designed for powder and rinse aid does not need regular cleaning. Meanwhile, particles of products that stick to surfaces tend to accumulate over time, creating a blockage and provoking the appearance of mold. Hence the unpleasant smell on the laundry after washing.
In fact, you need to wash the tray after each use of the machine. If you are too lazy to do this so often, then make it a rule to wash the compartments once a month, but no less often.
For cases that are too advanced, when the tray can no longer be simply washed with water, use more effective cleaning methods:
- immerse it in warm water for a while, 10–15 minutes is enough;
- generously soak a cloth in teeth rinse and apply to all dirty surfaces as a compress, leave for 15 minutes;
- then remove the cloth and clean the compartments with a brush.
Thanks to this cunning method, the smell will evaporate, the tray will shine with freshness, and the whiteness will return. But do not forget that you need to clean it regularly.
Filter
Another detail that many people don’t remember. Meanwhile, a lot of dirt, hair, wool and dust accumulate inside the filter - they also need to be removed so that the machine works properly and does not create an unpleasant odor.
Unscrew the filter and clean it with an old brush and toothpaste. It turns out that this product is very effective in removing stuck-on dirt.
When you unscrew the filter, do not forget to lay an old rag on the floor: water will flow from there.
Sealing rubber on the drum
Elastic bands often become a great breeding ground for mold because rarely does anyone remove any remaining water left there after washing. This results in an unpleasant odor and sometimes stains on the laundry. Cleaning this area is very simple:
- prepare an antiseptic - 0.5 ml of water + 0.5 teaspoon of oil;
- pour the solution into a spray bottle;
- spray it over the entire surface of the gum, including hard-to-reach places;
- leave for 10 minutes for best effect;
- Clean dirty areas with a medium-hard brush.
Drum
Sometimes plaque may appear on the surface of the drum - the consequences of washing with hard water. To make the metal shine like new again, there is one very easy way:
- distribute soda along the walls of the drum;
- take half a lemon and rub the surfaces thoroughly with it;
- wash with a damp cloth.
Cleaning will take some time, since plaque will have to be removed in stages, each time turning the drum and processing only the lower part.
Drain hose
It also needs to be cleaned, but sometimes this causes certain difficulties: how to get inside the hose. Everything ingenious is simple:
- pour either citric acid or baking soda into the hole (2 tablespoons is enough);
- pour in about 10 ml of vinegar using a syringe;
As has already become clear, a reaction will occur in the form of foam, which, in fact, will remove the contaminants inside the hose: while they are “fighting” with each other, in the meantime, excess mucus will be washed off the walls.
Don't forget about safety precautions! Be sure to wear gloves and work on a container, such as a basin or bucket.
These seemingly very simple measures (like using a mixture of soda and lemon to clean the drum from plaque) will help you not only effectively clean the machine inside and out, but will also allow it to drain water more efficiently, due to which it will not last so long " puff up" and make noise.
My first Indesit washing machine, which I bought in the 90s, still works. The machine is already 25 years old. It had a 25 year warranty. There was not a single breakdown. And so it turned out to be true. The corrosion of the body has just started recently. One leg crumbled to dust from rust. Stands on 3 legs. Still working.Many people ask me what kind of washing machine I should buy to replace the old one? What brand to buy, and you want good functionality. Please give me advice on what functions are necessary and improve the quality of washing for many types of items.
