6 places where you can hide a washing machine in a small apartment
Everyone is used to using an automatic washing machine. This is convenient, practical, and saves time. But the question often arises: where to put this colossus in a small apartment, so that it does not catch the eye and does not spoil the interior. Let's look at some interesting solutions.
Bathroom
Due to the small area of bathrooms, installing a machine is usually not even considered here. But in vain, because if you try hard, you can still squeeze in a washing unit. Non-standard solutions are possible:
- Place the machine under the sink. In this case, you will have to purchase a narrow washing machine with a depth of up to 45 cm and a height of up to 73 cm.
- If you already have a machine and it's a standard 60cm wide, then invest in a washbasin that drains to the side rather than down, and install it under the sink anyway.
- Place the washing machine next to the washbasin (if space allows) and cover it with a common countertop. You will have the opportunity to make drawers nearby.
And so, and so they figured - it doesn’t work? Then you will have to take a drastic step and get rid of the bathtub, replacing it with a shower stall of a minimum size - 80x80 cm. In this case, you will gain a place not only for the washing machine, but also for a cabinet in which you can hide the unit itself, and also fit a basket for dirty laundry .
Can't deny yourself the pleasure of soaking in the bath? Then install the washing machine next to it, just consider the possibility of a partition so that droplets of water do not fall on the washing machine. On the partition, make shelves for all sorts of household items, and the machine itself can be hidden from prying eyes behind a drapery, blinds or roller blind.
There are brave souls who refuse the sink in favor of a washing machine. But here, too, there is a way out - to install a sink above the bathtub - designers are now offering such designs.
Toilet
A washing machine in the toilet will not be an eyesore for anyone, so you don’t even have to hide it. This method also has a number of advantages:
- lack of moisture compared to a bath;
- the presence of tiled floors compared to kitchen laminate.
Do not discard this option due to lack of space, because the toilet can always be moved to the wall or the size of the sink (if available) can be reduced. Choose a narrow top-loading model and squeeze it next to the toilet. If you're willing to fork out the cash, purchase a model with a toilet flush. In this case, water after washing will accumulate and be used when draining the tank.
You can install the washing machine under the water heater, and there will also be shelves in the middle.
If you can’t fit the device into the toilet, and there is a storage room next to the toilet, then you can make a niche in the adjacent wall and install it there. Recently, models have appeared that can be hung on the wall, but their load of laundry is usually smaller - up to 3 kg, and the wall must be solid, and not made of plasterboard.
Combined bathroom
If you have already combined a bathroom with a toilet or are just planning to do so, then the washing machine will fit perfectly into the new interior. In this case, your room area will increase, and it will not be necessary to push the washing machine under the sink. It can also be placed separately, covered with a tabletop, which at the same time will act as an ironing board.
Kitchen
Installing a washing machine in the kitchen is not a rare occurrence, although sometimes it spoils the interior with its appearance. To prevent this from happening, you can hide it:
- in a cabinet under the countertop or in a column cabinet;
- choose a model that matches the color of the facade, refrigerator and gas stove.
Since the last two points are more difficult to complete, most likely you will have to be content with the first. Or you can do something even more unconventional by fitting a washing machine into a bar counter or island.
If there is a niche in the kitchen, then you should definitely install the machine there. There will also be room for shelves.
Recently, it has been fashionable to make a tall column for built-in appliances. In this case, it would be logical to build a washing machine into it.
Hallway
If you are so unlucky that the machine does not fit in either the bathroom or the kitchen, consider installing it in the hallway. A corridor niche is especially suitable for this purpose. True, we will have to extend communications to this place.
If there is no niche or storage room in the hallway, then the washing machine will have to be “hidden” in a closet or cabinet (possibly behind sliding partitions) so as not to spoil the aesthetics of the room. You will store household chemicals on the shelves and install a laundry basket, so you will have a real mini-laundry room.
It is advisable that the washing machine be installed through the wall with a bathtub or toilet, then supplying water and draining will be much easier.
Wardrobe
If you have allocated an entire room for a dressing room, then it is advisable to install a washing machine, dryer and ironing board there. Just keep in mind that communications are prohibited in living rooms. And at the same time you will also have to worry about waterproofing the floor and good ventilation. But if you meet all these conditions, then you can choose a standard size washing machine model with a large load of laundry.
We hope that we helped you make the right choice, and now you will not have any problems with placing the washing machine, since you will correctly and discreetly fit it into the interior of your home.
Our apartment was still built in the Soviet Union and fortunately we had a bed for a wardrobe. That's where they put their indesite, and there were hangers on the side. Quite convenient and organized
