Connecting and installing a dishwasher

After purchasing a dishwasher, it becomes necessary to connect it to the water supply system, sewerage system and to the power supply network. There are two ways here - either without thinking twice, call a technician who will do everything for an appropriate fee, or connect the dishwasher yourself. How difficult is it? It all depends on whether a person knows how to hold tools in his hands, and whether he understands the connection process itself.

The article will outline the list of necessary tools, the connection procedure, the features of connecting some brands of PMM, as well as the procedure for checking the device after connection.

What tools and materials will you need when connecting a dishwasher?

To connect the PMM you will need:

• bronze or brass (not silumin!) tee tap;
• clamps;
• pliers, screwdriver, wrench, wire cutters, Teflon tape or tow;
• siphon with branches;
• grounded socket.

There may be problems such as too short power cords, hoses, unsuitable gaskets, and the like. In this case, you will have to extend the hoses, buy additional gaskets, use an extension cord - in short, additional costs and fuss are possible.

Recommended order of work

Manufacturers include step-by-step connection instructions for dishwashers; often the connection sequence differs. The instructions for connecting the machine may say one thing, but in practice the proven sequence is as follows:

• connect the PMM to the sewer system;
• connect to the water supply;
• supply power;
• trial activation and testing;
• installation of the machine in its place - in a niche, under a tabletop, etc.

You can, of course, connect in a different sequence if you want to tinker a little longer.

Features of connecting dishwashers of different brands

For Bosch machines, it is very important to install the sealing gasket correctly, otherwise, after a couple of operating cycles, it will begin to leak water. In addition, the supply valve of machines of this brand is very sensitive, so you will have to install a coarse water filter in the system.

Regarding the Siemens brand, it is the most unpretentious equipment to install, with the exception of strict requirements for the size of the built-in niche and for fastenings.

When installing an Electrolux PMM, it is important to position it exactly level; the permissible tilt should not exceed 2 degrees.

The installation procedure was discussed above; the location for the PMM must meet the following requirements:

• the niche must correspond to the size of the machine; here it is important to clearly measure its dimensions before purchasing a PMM;
• The dishwasher mount is used either standard, included in the kit, or according to the sample given in the instructions;
• the instructions indicate the correct position of the dishwasher relative to the horizon level - this is how it should be mounted;
• The wiring and power connectors must not be exposed to water.

How to connect drainage and water supply

First of all, you need to install a sewer siphon with a fitting (or two, when connecting a PMM and a washing machine).

When connecting the dishwasher to the drain, pay attention:

• at the point where the hose is connected to the fitting, you need to make a V-shaped bend, which ensures natural drainage of water from the machine, while the water does not stagnate and does not return;
• there should be a knee at the bottom to avoid an unpleasant odor in the PMM;
• If possible, in order not to overload the pump, do not extend the drain hose.

The easiest way to connect water to the dishwasher is through a faucet. To do this you need:

• cut off the water supply;
• disconnect the hose from the mixer, while removing the old insulation;
• connect the tee with the tap to the cold water pipe;
• connect the mixer hose to one outlet of the tee, and the coarse filter to the other; connect the dishwasher inlet hose directly to the filter.

The inlet hose must be screwed on with force, but without using keys.

It is necessary to connect the PMM to the power supply system only through a separate grounded outlet. It is highly undesirable to use extension cords; it is also not recommended to connect refrigerators, washing machines and other appliances to the power supply with the dishwasher due to the high power consumption.It is recommended to provide a separate power supply to the dishwasher from an electric meter. How to test your dishwasher after connection

To check the PMM, you can run it without loading dishes, adding salt and powder. According to the attached instructions, we start the machine and look at the result. A test run makes it possible to verify that the connection to the power supply is correct, that there are no leaks and that the water supply is normal. Particular attention should be paid to checking for leaks. After a trial run, the dishwasher is installed in its regular place.
