Why did the dishwasher foam and what should I do about it?
If foam comes out of the dishwasher, this clearly indicates problems with the detergent, for example, its insufficient quality or excess quantity. Although other reasons are common, such as a clogged filter. A description of the main cases, as well as step-by-step repair instructions can be found in this article.

Main reasons
If foam appears, the reasons may be very different. They are mainly associated with detergent and food waste. Some of the most common situations include:
- Low quality detergent not suitable for dishwasher use. It is worth noting that the product may be quite good, but only intended for hand washing. For example, regular dish gel is definitely not suitable - it can also cause a large amount of foam to appear.
- The product is of high quality, but taken in too large quantities. You should not pour the powder “by eye” - you must follow the dosages specified in the instructions. The powder or liquid product is measured using a special spoon. Particular attention should be paid to lumps - if they settle to the bottom, they will produce strong foam.
- Sometimes the reason can be quite simple - the wrong cycle has been selected. For example, you poured in quite a lot of product and chose a short wash or set the wrong temperature (at least +40°C is required to completely dissolve the tablet).
- The appearance of foam can sometimes be explained by the characteristics of food residues. Certain types of dough, egg whites, and sour cream provoke foaming. To prevent this from happening, food debris must first be removed.
- Finally, excessive foaming can be explained by a clogged filter mesh. Eliminating the cause is quite simple - you can follow the instructions described below.
Cleaning the filter
If the same product is being used and has never produced much foam, the cause is most likely due to a clogged filter mesh. To clean it, proceed as follows:
- Disconnect the machine from the network. They open the door.
- Remove the basket that is located below.
- Unscrew the filter and take out the mesh.
- Wash it under water, then with detergent.
- Put in place and assemble all the parts in reverse order.
It is important to understand that the filter gets clogged quite often. It needs to be inspected once a month or use the self-cleaning option, which is installed on many modern models.
Cleaning the Camera
Also, after excessive foaming, the machine itself should be washed. They work like this:
- Disconnect the unit from the network.
- They take out all the dishes and baskets.
- Scoop out the foam using a ladle into a previously prepared container.
- Wipe the bottom and internal surfaces, remove all foam, and rinse if necessary.
- Then wipe dry with a clean cloth.
The methods described are quite sufficient. But if too much foam appears and it does not go away, during processing you can moisten a rag in a solution of vinegar and salt or in sunflower oil. To prevent a similar situation in the future, you need to periodically clean the filter, and also use a high-quality detergent strictly according to the instructions.
