Error E15 in a Bosch dishwasher: why it occurs and what to do
When error E15 appears in a Bosch dishwasher, this indicates an automatic shutdown due to the tray being filled with water. The appearance of liquid, in turn, can be associated with a variety of reasons, from problems with the drain path to sensor failure. The main cases and repair methods are described in this material.

Causes that you can eliminate yourself
Error E15 on a Bosch dishwasher appears immediately after the cycle starts. It can be identified by the appearance of a code on the display and the blinking of the tap icon. Another sign is that the drain pump is constantly running. Sometimes it starts as if by itself, even if the unit is turned off (the sound of water running is heard). Moreover, the device itself does not respond to commands and stops working.
The easiest way is to unplug the machine for a few minutes. After that, it is turned on again and the wash is started, but in most cases this does not help. Then you need to figure out exactly why the Bosch dishwasher gives error E15. In some cases, self-repair is possible:
- Leaks in the sewer pipe and other elements of the drainage system.If water gets on the floor (including from outside, for example, after spilling liquid from a basin), it is necessary to eliminate the leak and turn on the device again.
- Clogged filters - food debris regularly gets into them, so at some point they can no longer effectively remove waste liquid. Since it does not go away, the device automatically turns on the AquaStop protective system. It is necessary to turn off the device, turn off the water, disassemble and clean each filter.
- Sometimes a Bosch dishwasher shows error E15 due to the fact that, instead of a special product, the user poured Fairy or other similar compounds into the tray for hand washing. As a result, a lot of foam is formed, which also ends up in the pan. You need to turn off the device and let the camera dry for several days. If after this the Bosch dishwasher still gives error E15, then the problem is related to the electronics, the repair of which will cost much more.
- An error can also occur as a result of using a low-quality detergent. Or the user put too much powder or tablets in the tray. Then again a lot of foam forms - the solution is similar.
- If the Bosch E15 dishwasher display lights up, this can also be explained by water coming from the sewer. For example, the pipe and siphon are clogged, and then water flows back into the unit. This is observed extremely rarely, but nevertheless not excluded. It is recommended to turn off the tap, turn off the machine and clean the siphon, as well as the connection to the sewer pipe. You should also position the drain hose at the level of the sink, making a zigzag in the form of a loop, and install a check valve.
In what cases do you contact a specialist?
If the described methods did not help, and error E15 is displayed again in Bosch dishwashers, the reason is more complex. It may be associated with leaks inside the drain system, blockages, and even corrosion of the unit chamber itself. In such situations, it is difficult to carry out independent repairs; it is recommended to contact a specialist.
Leakage in the drain system
The most common cause of error E15 in a Siemens, Bosch and other dishwashers are leaks in the drain system, which is represented by several elements:
- pipes;
- hoses;
- pumps.
Most often, it is the drainage path that leaks, although sometimes there is a problem with the water supply system. The malfunction can be diagnosed by the constant noise from the operation of the drain pump. In addition, the device stops responding to commands. It is necessary to disassemble all elements, inspect them and wash them. If necessary, change the seals, tighten the clamp, and install new seals.
Clogged filters
When error E15 occurs in the dishwasher, it is recommended to inspect the filters located on the bottom. Residues of food periodically get into them, as a result of which they can no longer properly drain waste liquid. It accumulates in the tank, the machine perceives this as a signal of overcrowding and turns off.
Drain hose leaking
If your Bosch dishwasher gives an E15 error and the faucet is drawn, this may be due to damage or a loose connection in the drain hose. First, you can inspect it yourself - check for twists and creases. If the part is very old, it is easier to replace it with a new one.
Depressurization of the cup seal
If PMM Bosch showed error E15, this can also be explained by a leak of the seal, which ensures the tightness of the connection with the pan glass (the part is located in the tank). This is observed only after long-term use, for example, for 4-5 years or more. You will need to replace the seal and check the operation of the device.
Washing chamber leaking
Bosch rarely issues error E15 due to a leak in the washing chamber itself. It is made of metal, which over time can begin to deteriorate due to corrosion. This is why small holes appear that cause leaks. You can restore integrity using a special sealant, but this is a temporary solution. If the unit is too old, you should start considering buying a new machine.
Damage to the door seal
When the dishwasher showed error E15, it is worth inspecting the seal adjacent to the door around the perimeter. As a result, water begins to flow through the door onto the floor (during operation), and then into the pan itself. It fills with liquid, the aquastop protective system is activated, and the device automatically turns off. In such cases, it is necessary to replace the seal.
Cracks in the salt tray
If a Bosch dishwasher gives error E 15, this may indicate cracks in the tray for special salt or damage to the heat exchanger canister. This phenomenon is observed extremely rarely, it is mainly associated with improper storage conditions (for example, if the unit has been standing for a long time in an unheated room, in a cold warehouse).
Aqua stop sensor stuck
Finally, the appearance of E15 in a Bosch dishwasher can also be explained by a breakdown of the sensor, which determines the need to turn on the AquaStop system. If no actual leakage is observed (i.e.the surface of the pallet is completely dry), this indicates a breakdown of this part. It cannot be repaired - you will need to install a new sensor.
Thus, code E15 clearly indicates problems with the drainage system, i.e. the appearance of water in the pan, which does not go away and gradually accumulates. Because of this, the machine will not be able to operate, since the automatic flood protection system will work. If you cannot eliminate the problem yourself, it is recommended not to take risks and contact an experienced specialist.
