Stove safety is the most important thing!
The gas stove has not lost popularity among city dwellers and residents of rural areas for many years. It has a lot of advantages:
- long term use;
- low-cost maintenance;
- reduces cooking time;
- helps out where there is no electricity or centralized gas supply.
But it is necessary to constantly remember that the natural gas used in its operation is an explosive substance. Stove failures, even minor ones, can lead to serious consequences: fires, loss of property, and loss of life.
How to understand that a gas stove has become life-threatening
If there are problems with the operation of the stove, the ideal option is to call a specialist for diagnostics and service. It is more difficult for residents of remote areas to do this. Therefore it is worth knowing typical malfunctions of gas stoves and the reasons for their occurrence. In non-critical cases, you can repair the stove yourself.
What signs in the operation of a gas stove should cause you concern?
1. Change in the color of the fire at a working burner. When in good condition, the flame has an even blue color. Yellow and red shades indicate incomplete combustion of organic fuel. When the burner operates this way, traces of soot form on the dishes. This, like a leak, can lead to gas poisoning.
Signs of poisoning are dizziness, weakness, irritation of the mucous membrane of the eyes, disturbances in sleep and appetite.
The cause may be a clogged nozzle or a deformed flame divider.
2. Smell of gas. This is an obvious sign of a leak due to equipment depressurization. May cause explosion and fire. Your actions in this situation: turn off the gas supply, then open the windows to ventilate the premises. It is advisable to turn off the power to all electrical appliances in the house.
Only then can the slab be inspected to identify signs of leakage.
A soap solution will help to detect the place of depressurization. After whipping it into a foam, apply it to all connections of the system and the slab. At the point where the bubbles form there will be a hole through which gas leaks.
3. The burner does not light. If one of several burners does not light, then the reason is a clogged nozzle. And if all of them do not work, then you should check the operation of the electric ignition. Another reason is that gas is not supplied.
4. Weak flame combustion in all burners. Check if the supply hose is pinched between the wall and the stove. If only one burner is not working well, try cleaning the nozzle. If the hose is in order and cleaning is not needed, then the reason may be low gas pressure in the system. In this case, calling a specialist is mandatory.
An excessively intense flame on one of the burners may indicate wear on the nozzle, you'll have to replace it. If all the burners burn too hot, then the reason lies in increased gas pressure in the system or a malfunction of the gearbox. This is dangerous! You can't do it without qualified help.
5. The stove taps do not turn well. In old cookers, grease clogs the turning mechanism. It is enough to remove them and clean them. If you observe turning, the rotating mechanism is damaged.
6. Self-switching off of burners. Occurs due to violations in the gas supply control system. The thermoelectromagnetic valve is activated, stopping the gas supply.
When diagnosing malfunctions of a gas stove, do not forget to first disconnect it from the power supply and gas supply. It is dangerous to carry out repairs and replacement of parts yourself. Leave it to the professionals. Don't put your family's life in danger!
And now what i can do
Follow the schedule for preventive inspection of gas equipment by specialists. Such an inspection must take place at least once every three years. Any suspicion of a malfunction is a reason to call a gas technician!
Be vigilant yourself, monitor the cooking process on the stove, and do not leave it unattended.
Buy a gas leak detector. The device will notify you of any, even minor, leak.
