Brick sauna stoves projects
It's hard to meet people who don't like baths. This is a great way to relax and escape from everyday life. To avoid having to constantly sign up and spend time in saunas with questionable sanitary conditions, you can build one yourself. Despite That, that this is not a simple structure, it is not so difficult to build it yourself - the main thing is to strictly follow the instructions and take into account advice based on the experience of other builders and users.

Types of brick stoves for baths
Brick sauna stove designs vary. Depending on tastes, there are several types of baths. Some people like a simpler option, which is accompanied by a burning smell that evokes the atmosphere, while others advocate a civilized and modern bathhouse. It is useless to argue about tastes, so check out the already tested options yourself and choose the most suitable one for yourself:
- In black. The oldest type. It assumes the absence of a chimney, which contributes to the presence of a large amount of steam and a corresponding aroma in the room. However, in order for the sauna to be ready for use, you will have to wait until the fuel burns out completely.
- On gray. One of the most economical options.In this case, the stove is equipped with a chimney, which allows you to warm up the room faster, however, to use the bathhouse you must also wait until the firewood is completely burned out.
- On white. The best option both in terms of cost and cleanliness. In such a room, a large amount of soot does not settle, but the heat is well retained. The main disadvantage is the long heating time of the oven, which does not satisfy everyone.
- With a stove. A good option for a bathhouse, in which the constant attributes are a tank mounted on a cast-iron slab and masonry. To keep the temperature at the desired level for a long time, the tank is closed on three sides. Usually it is located on top of the firebox, and above the chimney are bath stones.
For reasons of economy, a stone stove is usually built according to the gray version. This option has rich steam. Technically, the design is a combination of a combustion chamber and bath stones located on top of it.
The dimensions of the oven depend on your requirements and capabilities. In a large room there is no point in installing a small stove, since it will not be enough to warm up. Whereas in a small one, a large one can create problems when moving and too high a temperature, interfering with a comfortable pastime.
Projects for wood-burning bathhouses are carried out in different orders, the drawings will help you figure them out. Brick structures are characterized by long-term operation.
What is order
By ordering we mean a brick laying diagram with notes on the location of the material in each row. The order is selected in accordance with the dimensions of the steam room and the location of the structural elements.
IMPORTANT.If you yourself do not have the skills of a mason, then follow the algorithm without deviations. For custom designs, changes should be made to a professional.
Sauna stove project: step-by-step order
Any masonry begins with laying a zero row in order to match the foundation of the stove to the floor level. The height of the structure is determined from the ratio of ten centimeters per layer of brick.
Brick can be laid in several ways:
- on the side;
- flat with the wide part.
Laying methods can alternate within the same order. It must be laid in strict accordance with the chosen scheme. An example of masonry for a stove with a water tank can be found in the pictures.
Do-it-yourself brick stove for a bathhouse
Building a sauna with your own hands is not difficult. However, in order to speed up the process, as well as simply for safety, you should not do this alone.
The algorithms for the construction of any type of bathhouse are identical to each other. Particularly complex options include only sophisticated designs, which a beginner in construction should refrain from doing so so as not to accidentally waste material.
How to make a project safe: main features
When building a bathhouse, it is first of all important to pay attention to fire safety. According to her requirement, the distance between the stove and the walls should be at least 30 cm. When using a protective layer, you can reduce it by half.
The roof material is also insulated from the chimney using special materials. These usually include asbestos or basalt cardboard.
To ensure safe combustion, refractory material is placed in front of the stove.
IMPORTANT.No matter what safe bathhouse design you choose, the risk of getting a burn due to careless operation always remains.
Choosing material
Sand-lime brick is absolutely unsuitable for use at high temperatures, as it can become unusable after just a week. The use of hollow bricks leads to the same result.
The best options for building a sauna stove are the following types of bricks:
- red fireproof;
- fireclay.
In order to save on costs, the firebox itself is often laid out from fireclay bricks, and the facing part is made of ceramic.
Preparation of the solution
When constructing furnaces, in rare cases they resort to pure cement mortar, since it is not particularly resistant to high temperatures. Often impurities are added to it in large quantities: clay and sand. You can even abandon the use of cement. Preparation of the solution may take some time. Before diluting, the clay must sit and soften, which may take several days. The mixture with sand is usually made in a 1:2 ratio. The output should have the consistency of thick sour cream. The most convenient way to achieve uniformity is with a construction mixer or a drill with a special attachment.
To avoid drying out of the solution, it is better not to prepare it for future use. If it has dried slightly, you can dilute it with a mixture of sand and water.
Bricklaying
To avoid the brick drawing moisture out of the mortar, it must first be soaked for 12 hours. Fireclay bricks can be rinsed in water cleanly to get rid of dust.
IMPORTANT. If you use old brick for construction, it must be thoroughly cleaned before laying.
The first row is laid out without mortar; the subsequent rows are covered with a diluted mixture 5 mm thick. Excess must be removed immediately. Since when dried, they can interfere with the normal circulation of oven air. For structural strength, the brick is usually laid with an offset of up to half its size.
IMPORTANT. The masonry is carried out in strict accordance with the selected ordering scheme.
Chimney
For the construction of the chimney, solid bricks should be selected. The use of stumps may increase the likelihood of them falling out during use. Particular attention should be paid to the following nuances:
- the chimney should not narrow or expand significantly in some places;
- The presence of excess dried mixture on the brick is not allowed;
- the chimney must be of sufficient length so that the air has time to cool before exiting into the pipe;
- For fire safety purposes, the pipe must be additionally wrapped in heat-resistant material.
By strictly following the basic tips, you can build the ideal bathhouse for yourself. However, there is no need to rush. It is important to approach not only the construction process itself, but also the planning stage, so that the constructed bathhouse fully meets the requirements.
