Unusual household appliances that are in every Korean home

Agree that we will always be interested in knowing how people live in other countries. It's interesting, educational, but sometimes very strange. For example, Koreans have unusual equipment in their home, which for us seems not so necessary, but for them - everyday and familiar, without which they can no longer imagine life. But the most interesting thing is that 99% of household appliances that Koreans actually purchase are produced in their country and exclusively for the domestic market.

Refrigerator for kimchi

Kimchi is a traditional Korean dish. It's a mixture of fermented vegetables, based on Chinese cabbage, generously sprinkled with seasonings and, in fact, very tasty. For them, kimchi is like bread for us. So, in the house of almost every Korean there are two refrigerators. The first is for regular products, and the second is for kimchi. In its design, it is slightly different from the equipment we are used to, but it performs only one function - storing kimchi.

Before the advent of such refrigerators, Koreans fermented vegetables directly in the ground. With the development of technology, this need has disappeared, and now local residents simply buy a special refrigerator.

rice cooker

Another must-have device in any Korean’s home. They cannot imagine their life without rice, but it is important that it is also properly cooked.A rice cooker is a special technique that not only helps you cook rice correctly, but also keeps it fresh for up to three days!

By the way, such a device is very expensive - from $100 apiece.

Electric blanket

Winter in Korea, although very short, is quite cold. Centralized heating in the country is quite expensive, and therefore local residents often install heated floors to keep warm. True, this does not help for long, because the heat is mostly located below, and the air remains cold. To sleep comfortably, Koreans use an electric blanket - a great way to stay warm at night. At the same time, residents consider such heating to be very convenient and practical.

Washing machine for baby clothes

In this country, they treat the younger generation with reverence. Moreover, Korean mothers (unlike ours) believe that washing children's clothes together with adult clothes is unhygienic and even unethical. For this purpose, namely washing children's clothes, they purchase a special washing machine. It is larger in size and comes with additional useful features such as “steam sterilization” or “silver treatment”.

The design of such a device is quite interesting. Usually, an additional small tank is installed at the top or bottom of the washing machine, where, in fact, Korean mothers wash their babies’ clothes.

Purchasing a special washing machine is not only a kind attitude towards children, but also significant savings. If you wash a child’s clothes in a common drum, then much more water and electricity are consumed, and a small tank consumes much less resources.

Door lock

In most Korean houses you will not find the usual locks that are opened/closed with a key.Koreans are accustomed to thinking that this is not the most reliable method. They have combination locks. To get into the house, you must dial a code, usually consisting of four or six digits. After five incorrect attempts, the siren sounds. Koreans think that this is much more convenient and practical.

Bidet

In the early 2000s, commercials were shown on every TV in Korea extolling the benefits of using a bidet. Yes, this plumbing fixture is quite popular in European countries, but the Korean device is a little different. Here it is electric and, as a rule, not free-standing, but installed directly on the seat of the main toilet. By the way, many devices have button controls, and the bidet itself is so popular that they are installed not only at home, but even in public places: restaurants, offices, cafes, libraries, etc.

Residents of Korea have come up with many things that can make life and everyday life easier. Even in small things. For example, a tiny fan that can be worn around the neck. An excellent solution in the heat.

Air and water filters

Koreans are simply obsessed with the microclimate of their homes. In their homes you can find not only a water filter (and quite a powerful one), but also a high-quality air purifier. However, such concern among local residents is not surprising, since the industrial giant China is next door.
