Freezer on the balcony in winter
A freezer is purchased by thrifty owners in addition to the main cooling device - a refrigerator, for long-term storage of summer harvest. Therefore, as a rule, it is used much less frequently, which means there is no point in installing it in a kitchen, especially in a city apartment, where every square meter counts.
Where to put a large freezer? Often users choose a balcony for this, not realizing the consequences such use can lead to.

Is it possible to place a freezer on the balcony in winter?
Using a chest freezer on the balcony in winter, the risks and aspects are on the surface - the temperature at which the contents must be cooled is higher, which means there will be more consumption. Plus the danger of direct sunlight.
In winter, such factors are excluded. Does this mean that using freezers during the cold season does not have any negative consequences? Let's look at this issue more closely.
Manufacturers' recommendations
What temperature can the freezer operate at? Manufacturers strongly recommend operating the household appliance in accordance with the attached instructions. Each freezing unit belongs to a specific climate class, which requires the use of equipment in the temperature range from +10 to +43 0WITH.
Is it possible to keep a freezer on the balcony? If the temperature on your balcony in winter drops below the designated level, equipment manufacturers will definitely not approve of the idea of putting a freezer there. Moreover, if there is a possible breakdown, you will most likely be denied warranty service due to incorrect operation.
Firstly, the compressor uses oil that thickens at temperatures close to zero and below zero. This means that turning on the freezer will be accompanied by an increased load on the condenser mechanisms.
Secondly, when the refrigerant leaves the condenser, the pressure decreases, as a result of which the latter begins to run idle, subjecting itself to extreme loads.
Together, these two factors significantly reduce the service life and increase the risk of capacitor failure.
At what temperature will the freezer operate?
Inside the freezer, depending on the mode and model, the temperature is maintained in the range from -16 to -25 degrees. The automation is triggered when the temperature sensor in the working area detects a temperature 2-3 degrees lower, i.e. a refrigerator connected to the network will start even at – 13 0C, however, will operate under severe overloads not intended by the manufacturer.
Important! In fact, a temperature lying within the range corresponding to the climate class of the freezer will be considered acceptable for operation, i.e. at least +10 0C.
Connection and installation rules
If for some reason you have decided to install and operate the outdoor camera on the balcony in winter, you need to carry out preparatory work in order to avoid problems with the refrigeration unit in the near future.
- Glaze your balcony or loggia using high-quality two- or three-layer double-glazed windows. Precipitation on the device body, as well as high humidity in the external environment, are not allowed.
- Additionally protect the thermal circuit of the balcony with insulation. Not only the walls, but also the floor and ceiling should be insulated.
- Connect a heating circuit to the room in case of severe frosts. As an alternative, you can use an electric heater for such days, maintaining the temperature within the required tolerance.
- Provide ventilation on the balcony to reduce excess humidity generated during operation of the device.
- The freezer should be positioned in such a way as to avoid direct sunlight. In winter this is not so critical, but in summer it is unacceptable. A simple solution in this case can be curtains or blinds.
