Is there life without a microwave?
It should be remembered: everyone who is interested in sales will work through the client’s objections and list only the advantages of their product. Over the course of a couple of decades, we have become so accustomed to microwave ovens that some people do not understand how they can live without them. The breakdown of a beloved appliance causes stress; some people are so accustomed to fast food that they don’t even take it for repairs, but throw away the broken equipment and immediately buy a new one.
At first glance, everything is simple: electromagnetic radiation creates waves that make water molecules move faster. Due to this effect, the products are heated to the desired temperature. But why then is food from a microwave so different from that prepared in the traditional way? Because other heating mechanisms are involved, coming from inside the product, destroying the natural structure.
Microwave ovens have found application in industry. They dry and defrost huge batches of food, melt plastic, fire ceramics, heat glue, and so on.
A lot of controversy arises around microwaves - whether they are harmful to human health. We can talk for a long time; there is enough contradictory information for a full two-day debate. As a result, each participant will still have his own opinion. Here are a few facts that speak against this device:
- You can find mention that microwave ovens retain all the benefits of vitamin C, but destroy protein and vitamin B12, beneficial lactic acid bacteria. It turns out that heating meat, chicken, mushrooms, kefir, and cottage cheese in this way is strictly prohibited.
- Honey after microwave will lose all its beneficial properties! It is prohibited to heat it above 40 degrees.
- Berries and fruits are deprived of glucoside and galactoside.
- Rays destroy flavonoids. These are natural antioxidants that help our body eliminate toxins. For example, there are a lot of them in broccoli. To preserve its beneficial properties, it is better to steam it.
- Garlic is known for its ability to neutralize carcinogens, but after microwave treatment it completely loses this property.
- Speaking about the safety of radiation, it is worth noting that pregnant women are prohibited from standing in front of a working unit. There are no such restrictions for the oven and kettle, since they definitely do not cause harm!
The question arises: is the imaginary comfort worth such losses? It is not advisable to use microwave ovens every day to prepare useless food. Many people get along just fine without them!
The first microwave was invented in the USA and was adapted to heat food for a large number of soldiers.
How do people live without a microwave oven?
To prove that there is life without this unit, I will give several proven examples.Cutlets will always taste better when they are simmered in a frying pan or oven. Everything that concerns meat and chicken relates precisely to the point about the destruction of proteins! Protein products after microwave will become useless food, not to mention inexpressive taste. So, what devices help in the kitchen.
Oven. Modern models with grill and convection cook amazingly delicious dishes with an appetizing crust. Cooking pans with non-stick coating, baking bags and baking sleeves will allow you to do without oil.
Plate. There is no exact clinical data on how a microwave oven affects the structure of water, so it is better to heat food in small saucepans or metal bowls. For example, I noticed long ago that heating in the microwave is uneven, but soup from the stove is always evenly warm.
Separately, I would like to add about containers: even if they are expensive food-grade plastic, over time you can see with the naked eye how the wall becomes cloudy from constant use in the microwave.
Roaster or mini-oven. If we are talking about a small-sized kitchen, then instead of a full-fledged stove they install a small but powerful “brother”. Roasters can also bake, but due to the small volume it turns out faster. Great for hot sandwiches, heating meat and fish and other healthy pleasures. The work is based on heating heating elements from above and below. Some models have up to four heating elements and built-in convection.
Multicooker. Those who do not want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen should take a closer look at modern models. Dinner from a slow cooker will bring more benefits due to the preservation of vitamins.
Double boiler.Steaming takes a leading position among adherents of a healthy diet, it preserves the maximum nutrients and texture of food and allows you to cook without oil. Steamed vegetables and cutlets are recommended for anyone who has problems with excess weight and gastrointestinal health.
It is better to pour juice, kefir and milk into warm cups and leave them on the table for some time so that the liquid itself reaches room temperature.
Microwaves were also made in the USSR, but production did not become widespread. The first mentions date back to 1978, and several factories were involved in production, including the legendary ZIL.
Any self-respecting chef who values his reputation would never serve guests a dish from the microwave. It loses taste and vitamins. We can do without a microwave oven, but we can’t do without healthy and nutritious food.
