Can foil be microwaved?

The microwave oven has become an indispensable household appliance in our daily lives. Every user knows that metal utensils should not be used for heating. However, in recent years, disposable plates and thick foil forms have become widespread. It is marked that it can be used in the microwave. Let's find out why heating in ordinary aluminum paper is so dangerous and how acceptable innovative cookware is.

What happens if you put foil in the microwave?

Experts note that the latest modifications of ovens make it possible to use foil dishes for cooking and heating inside the appliance. However, you need to be extremely careful and follow the basic rules. Placing ordinary shiny paper without preparation and turning on the heat is tantamount to “killing” a household appliance.

The resulting electric arc will completely damage the microwave. You will have to buy a new device: it is unlikely to be repaired.

Warm-up result

It is allowed to conduct a preliminary experiment. To do this, place a fireproof glass plate inside the chamber, in which place a piece of thick aluminum foil. Place a regular glass of water nearby. Turn on the stove for half a minute.

Then open the door and feel the mug and plate. If the water in the container begins to heat up, but the stand remains cold, everything is in order. If the result is the opposite, stop experimenting.

Special dishes

In stores today, baking dishes made of foil are sold at an affordable price. They are marked according to which they are allowed to be used in such household appliances.

Modernized foil or dishes are used when it is necessary to bake or warm up a product. Unlike the usual one, it is covered with tiny holes and created using certain technologies. This makes it safe.

Terms of Use

In order for the cooking or heating process to go smoothly, a number of requirements must be met:

  1. The product should occupy 95% of the thick foil container.
  2. The dish is placed directly on the rotating stand in the center, at least 2 cm away from the walls of the microwave.
  3. Foil plates are considered disposable, do not reheat in them.
  4. If in doubt about its use, look for the “microwave friendly” label. It gives permission to be exposed to microwaves.

If in doubt and not labeled accordingly, use glass or fireproof containers. Also, do not place two containers next to each other: this will violate the 2 cm space requirement.
