Why doesn't the hair clipper cut hair?
Most modern hair clippers are similar in type to Soviet razors. They are indispensable equipment for professional hairdressers. Many consumers buy such devices for home use. But, like any equipment, machines can break down, which is why they require urgent repairs. What could be the reasons for the malfunction of the device and can you fix them yourself at home?

What types of hair clippers are on the market?
The modern market is represented by a wide variety of models, but they are all divided into two categories:
- rotary;
- vibration.
Rotary clippers are devices of a fairly expensive segment in the modern sphere of tools for a hairdresser. These models come in two versions:
- operating from the electrical network;
- operating on a battery.
Among the main advantages of the presented units are long service life, reliability and high power.
The main driving part of such devices is an electric motor, the rotor of which has an eccentric. At the moment of rotation, it acts on the movable knife, thereby moving it to the sides.In addition, this unit also has a knife block, which consists of static and active parts.
ATTENTION! In a hair clipper that operates offline, the body houses a battery and a control board.
Vibration models belong to the budget category. In the device, the motor is replaced by a coil, and in front of it there is a pendulum with a magnet. At the moment the current passes through the coil, the polarity of the magnetic field begins to change in its core with an indicator of 50 Hz. In view of the above, the magnet changes location on a permanent basis, and thus moves the movable knife. This model also has an activation key.
Why doesn't the clipper cut hair?
Depending on the hair clipper used, the nature of the malfunctions will differ. So, in rotary models powered from the electrical network, the following breakdowns may occur:
- problems with the network connection cable (burnt out, frayed, etc.);
- the activation key is broken;
- the eccentric has worked;
- problems are related to the head of the cutting blade block;
- The electric motor broke down.
Stand-alone models of rotary devices can upset consumers with such problems as:
- battery failure or charge output;
- the charging station is broken;
- the charging station cord is frayed;
- The control board is burnt out.
Vibrating models are also not the most reliable equipment and often upset consumers with various malfunctions. The main breakdowns include:
- problems with the power cord;
- activation key failure;
- the coil winding has broken;
- During operation, extraneous noise appeared.
ATTENTION! To extend the life of the machine and prevent some breakdowns, it is necessary to regularly lubricate the device with special oil.
In addition to the indicated breakdowns, a number of general breakdowns can be identified for each type of machine. These include: the device has stopped cutting or is missing pieces of hair, tugging or “chewing” them.
Hair clipper malfunctions that you can fix yourself
The consumer can easily fix some breakdowns with his own hands, without experience or special knowledge:
- The indicators in the rotary machine have gone out and it will not start. This reason is associated with a clogged rotor or eccentric. To eliminate it, you should disassemble the case, remove dirt, and then check the device again for functionality. The reason may also be due to the device falling. In such cases, there is a high probability that the internal power wires will become disconnected. To fix this, open the case, and if the wires are disconnected, solder them back.
- The rotary autonomous machine does not start. Most likely, the reason lies in a faulty power supply that simply does not charge the battery. To eliminate the breakdown, you need to disassemble it and inspect the coil for breakage. If this is the case, then you will need to replace the coil or simply purchase a new power station.
- Extraneous noise during operation of the vibrating machine. In this situation, you should open the housing and check the position of the coil. Sometimes the screws holding this element can unscrew spontaneously and as a result, the machine makes a lot of noise when working. In this case, simply screw these bolts back in and again enjoy the performance of your hairdressing equipment.
And if the light bulb does not light, then measure the light bulb.
