This is the health hazard that air conditioning poses

However, despite its simplicity, this device is fraught with great danger. It should be used with the utmost caution, taking responsibility for its correct operation.

What dangers does air conditioner pose?

First of all, adults believe that this device can be dangerous for small children, since the air conditioner can simply blow them out if the children stay under it for a long time. Diseases especially occur in children at the moment when they sweat a lot after active games - in this case there is a very high risk of catching a cold.

However, for adults, this seemingly harmless item can be deadly. For example, due to severe contamination of the device, there is a risk of the formation of Legionella bacteria, which multiplies in the condensate of the dirty environment.

The most famous example of the impact of this bacterium occurred in America in 1976. At that time, in one of the small towns, more than 200 people fell ill at the same time. 35 people on this list were unable to cope with the disease, and their symptoms were fatal. It later turned out that this was due to the spread of the pathogen by air flow.

How often should you clean your air conditioner?

Modern equipment has become more technologically advanced, but it still requires good care. Despite the fact that the air conditioner is used quite rarely, it also needs to be cleaned.

If the device is used for only one season, it is enough to clean it only twice. The first one is immediately before use, and the second one is after the equipment is put away for storage, until next year.

If equipment is used year-round in warm climates, it should be cleaned every month. To do this, simply wipe it with a damp cloth.

Important! If you saturate a cloth with a small amount of alcohol, this will significantly reduce the chances of harmful microbes forming on the surface of the device.

How else can you reduce risks?

To ensure that the pathogen has no chance at all, you should also take care of the general cleanliness of the room. At least once a week, wet cleaning should be done with the addition of a good detergent. Also, when cleaning, you should wipe any surface away from the source of dust formation, since this is the environment that is most favorable for the development of harmful microorganisms.

Additionally, you should pay attention to the ventilation of the room. This should be done daily, at least for 5-10 minutes. It is best to do this before bed, in the evening, or in the morning.
