A monoblock is a type of climate control equipment that has recently been introduced to the market, but already has its fans and detractors. And why all? Some remained committed to standard air conditioners, while others, having installed a floor-mounted air conditioner, have long felt the significant advantages of the equipment. In this article we will give some tips on how to install a mobile air conditioner in an apartment.

Advantages of installing a mobile air conditioner in an apartment

Not everyone wants to deface their walls and worry about which wall to hang the indoor air conditioner unit on. Therefore, we invite you to familiarize yourself with the advantages of mobile systems:

  • no work involved in installing a mobile air conditioner in terms of labor intensity - everything can be done in literally 5-10 minutes even without tools;
  • The choice is especially relevant for apartments that have already been renovated and do not want to change anything;
  • mobility – this air conditioner is distinguished by its “mobility”, if you can call it that. Yes, you will have to do preparatory work before turning it on, but still, it can be moved;
  • does not require the consent of the apartment owners for installation (if you live in a rented premises);
  • there is no need to lay any additional communications.

What does installation of a mobile air conditioner mean?

The system has two main elements: a condenser and an evaporator. This circuit is a chain of many radiators through which freon flows. In the evaporator, freon is converted into a vapor mixture, “removing” heat from the room, and under the condenser this heat is transferred to the atmosphere of the room. In floor-standing devices, the entire system is located inside the device - there is no need to invent anything.

Another option is a split system. This type consists of internal and external blocks. The split system is more powerful than its competitor, but it is not without one drawback - the price of the device is much higher than a monoblock. The split system is also inferior in terms of installation - connecting a mobile air conditioner can be difficult if you do everything yourself.

Installation of a floor-mounted system is much simpler than a standard air conditioner. But to say that it does not need installation at all is fundamentally wrong. We just need to distinguish what we are going to install: a mobile device or a split system. In the first case, the work is minimal, since we are installing only one block; in the second option there are both external and internal parts that require a separate place in the room.

How to connect a mobile air conditioner - follow the basic rules from our editors:

  1. work with the device directly from the outlet, and not through extension cords or adapters, as they very often burn and melt;
  2. turn on the air conditioner only with a grounded outlet;
  3. do not use gas pipes for grounding;
  4. Do not turn on a partially disassembled device;
  5. after installation, the plug must be provided with unobstructed access;
  6. the fuse cannot be placed in the passive position, otherwise you may get a “shock” of the system;
  7. there should be no obstacles to air circulation - provide at least half a meter for air circulation;
  8. It is prohibited to install the mobile system in places with high humidity and outdoors.

How to properly secure a floor monoblock

We have specially prepared several fastening methods for you:

  • The air outlet can be installed through an open door.
  • We pass the pipe through the transom or directly into the window.

Installation steps:

  1. The condensate drain hose is installed in a separate tube.
  2. The air duct is connected to the monoblock hood.
  3. We attach the second end of the pipe either behind the door or on the window.

Nothing more is required from you!

How to install a mobile air conditioner: is it possible in a plastic window?

A split system is fundamentally different in installation method from a conventional monoblock. There are three installation methods:

  • The outer part is mounted in the utility room.
  • Installation on the terrace.
  • Placed on the window with special fastenings or brackets.

The best place for the external unit will be an open area: a veranda, terrace or window frame. The distance between parts of the air conditioner or between the outer part and the wall must be at least 60 mm.

Fastening the block is not a mandatory item during installation. This equipment can be installed even on the floor. The main thing is that the water does not spill out, otherwise place it anywhere. If you decide to mount it on the floor, attach four strong rollers to the bottom so that the unit stands securely. For the outer part, brackets are always included in the kit. Well, or you can always buy more of them.

To install on the wall, you need to make holes with an impact drill or hammer drill, after which the dowels are hammered into which we screw the brackets. And lastly, we attach the block to the wall. Make sure that the structure is securely “sat” on the wall mount and nothing falls out!
