Coffee maker
How to replace the thermostat in a coffee maker
A thermostat is necessary to control the supply of electricity necessary for the heating element to work properly. If problems occur, this leads to problems. Before deciding to replace the thermostat, it is recommended to check it:
- The coffee maker must be turned off and excess liquid removed from the container. Afterwards you need to unscrew the fastener. This may require a specific screwdriver attachment.
- To check the thermostat, use a tester. Place test leads on each end of the sensors.
- If a malfunction is detected, it is recommended to replace the thermostat with a similar one.
Important! If unsoldering is required to replace a part, it is recommended not to try to carry out the repair yourself, but to contact a service center.
What to do if the coffee maker does not supply water
One of the most common coffee maker breakdowns is the lack of water supply. There are many reasons for such problems to arise. Even improper operation of the unit can lead to such consequences.
Most often, the lack of water supply is due to contamination of the filter, as well as a breakdown of the float sensor.If the supply of hot water has stopped, it is recommended to conduct a comprehensive diagnostic to identify all the details of the problem. The float sensor could be flooded with water or it could be clogged with particles. If the water is too hot, the coffee maker may also not detect or dispense liquid.
If, after adding water, you find that the device does not respond, it is recommended to check the serviceability of the float sensor:
- fill the tank with water;
- wait until the float appears on the surface;
- If this does not happen, it is recommended to clean the area where the float is located.
Cases where major repairs to this part are required rarely occur. The problem is usually resolved by replacing the float. When deciding to carry out the work yourself, it is important to choose the right part. In addition, you can contact a specialist who will professionally repair the coffee maker.
The lack of water may be due to a dirty filter. You need to choose it based on the type of coffee maker. Constant steam supply can damage the plastic parts. To determine the exact cause of the malfunction, it is worth conducting diagnostics.
How to check the heating element of a coffee maker
A tubular electric heater (TEH) is required to heat water and is used in devices for such purposes. Sometimes it becomes necessary to check a tubular electric heater:
- It is necessary to find out what resistance the heating element has. First, find out the power, information about which is indicated on the body of the coffee maker, as well as in the attached passport.
- Then you need to calculate the current that flows through the heating element using the ratio of the identified power indicator to voltage. Resistance data is obtained from the ratio of voltage to current.
- The heating element is checked by a special tester. First, the device is disconnected from the network, then the wires are disconnected from the connectors.
- Set the multimeter to measurement mode. If the heating element is working properly and there are no problems, the device indicator will reflect a resistance close to your calculations. If the tester reads zero, this indicates an internal malfunction and the heating element requires replacement. When a unit appears, it is also worth replacing the electric heater, because it has broken.
It is recommended to check for a breakdown on the housing. You need to put the device in the “buzzer” dialing mode. One probe should be connected to the heating element output area, the other to the body of the electric heater. If there is no breakdown, the buzzer will not start beeping. Otherwise, there is a breakdown on the body.
