Is it possible to leave magnets on the refrigerator?

Is it possible to leave magnets on the refrigerator?Do you have a magnet on your refrigerator? It is much easier to get an affirmative answer to this question than a negative one. And it’s even more difficult to find a person whose refrigeration unit does not have and never has had a single picture on it.

Although in the time of our mothers and grandmothers there was no such tradition.

REFERENCE! Refrigerator magnets appeared in the 70s of the last century in the USA.
Their production was patented by William Zimmermann from Louisiana. And they depicted the first decorations of popular cartoon characters.

Why do we hang them on the refrigerator?

These days, rarely does anyone buy a magnet for themselves. But they are often purchased as gifts and in large quantities. New Year or March 8, returning from a trip or a sign of symbolic attention to wedding guests - a magnet will always help out. Moreover, it will not require large expenses, like other souvenirs.

That's how we all became reluctant collectors. And these collections are constantly being replenished.

REFERENCE! The largest collection of magnets numbers more than 30 thousand copies and belongs to the American Louise Greenfarb, who lives near Las Vegas.

Magnets rarely have any practical use.Is it possible to leave magnets on the refrigerator?

  • Their main purpose is as a holder. A recipe or a note to loved ones, a calendar or a reminder for yourself will be securely attached in a visible place. And they definitely won’t go unnoticed!
  • Masking of external defects of the unit. A small scratch or dent can easily be hidden with a bright picture.
  • Opportunity to keep a child busy.Images of numbers and letters, vegetables and fruits can even be useful for the baby's development.
  • Decorative decoration is another explanation. Some people select them by color or shape and lay them out on the door in the form of patterns.

But most often they are stuck on chaotically, and when the collection becomes too large, they look completely unattractive.

Should I really take it off?

Do you know that innocent magnets have serious opponents? They are categorically against why hang itsuch decor. And they don’t consider him so innocent.

Such statements are cited as an “against” opinion.

  • One of the main statements was the harm from the created magnetic fields. Horror stories about how bright decorations make food dangerous are still found on the Internet. The interesting thing is that serious scientists have not confirmed this. And the manufacturers of the units took care of additional safety of the structures.
  • Danger for people with pacemakers - but this is serious! Excessive amounts of such decorations collected in one place may affect the functioning of the stimulator. In this case, there is only one solution: remove it!
  • Cleanliness and order also do not go well with this type of decor. You need to carefully monitor them, it takes a lot of time, and attention is often not enough.
    • Well, if we talk about beauty, then we must admit that a random accumulation of magnets can hardly be called a kitchen decoration.

Well, now decide for yourself, is it worth leaving all those magnets that are conveniently located on your refrigerator? Maybe at least half of them can be gotten rid of?

Comments and feedback:

Regarding the supposed harm - is it okay that all refrigerators (with the exception of ancient ones, such as ZIL from the 50-60s) have a MAGNETIC door seal?

The author has nothing better to do that he sucks all sorts of nonsense out of thin air? Magnets do not and cannot cause any harm even to pacemakers; the magnetic field is too weak. It does not penetrate inside the refrigerator at all, but closes on the metal of the door. Magnets are a purely aesthetic component.

There cannot be any serious consequences from magnets on the refrigerator. It just looks ugly. Everyone decides for themselves how to clutter their space.
