No Frost refrigerator: how to wash and clean
Despite the presence of the No Frost system, which literally means “without frost,” it is recommended to defrost the unit at least a couple of times a year. This should be done for the purpose of general cleaning.
Defrosting simply involves temporarily disconnecting the unit from the network, since a properly functioning refrigerator of this type defrosts automatically.
Important! Refrigeration units tend to accumulate unpleasant odors. To get rid of them, complete defrosting and ventilation is necessary.
When defrosting, the following simple rules should be observed:
- Cleaning the unit should not be carried out in extreme heat;
- if there are two cooling circuits, defrosting only one of the chambers is allowed;
- if there is only one cooling circuit, then before turning off the device, set the thermostat to zero;
- after turning off the power, remove all contents and leave the door wide open;
- The entire unit should be washed, including the rear surface;
- Complete cleaning should begin after the internal surfaces have reached room temperature;
- First of all, the ventilation compartments are cleaned using cotton swabs;
- then it’s time to clean the shelves, pockets located in the door and other internal elements;
- Complete cleaning by wiping all surfaces dry;
- Before turning on the unit, make sure that all surfaces inside are 100% dry.
Important! Cleaning the rear surface, where the most dust accumulates, is necessary to ensure that the unit consumes less energy.
Cleaning the refrigerator: which products can be used and which cannot
It is better to use solutions prepared independently to clean the internal elements of the refrigerator. This could be, for example, a simple soap solution, for the preparation of which you use ordinary dishwashing detergent or laundry soap.
Soda solution is effective and safe for internal elements. It is prepared at the rate of 1 liter. water 2 tsp powder. A sponge soaked in such a solution can easily not only clean, but also disinfect all parts. Also for washing, a solution with vinegar is used, which is diluted with water in equal parts.
Important! The use of vinegar solution to wash the rubber seal is contraindicated! If this element loses elasticity, you can use olive oil for rubbing.
The refrigerator tends to accumulate moisture, which leads to mold. To get rid of it, a solution of bleach with water, taken in the proportion: 1 part of the product and 10 parts of water, is suitable.To get rid of stubborn stains, you need to soak them for 10 minutes.
Important! To clean internal parts, it is prohibited to use products containing chemicals. Aggressive substances can subsequently settle on products.
It is allowed to use only those store-bought products for cleaning inside the unit that do not leave scratches and do not raise doubts about their safety for products.
How to keep your refrigerator tidy
The outside surface of the refrigerator should be wiped down at least once a week. Products should also be regularly reviewed for expiration dates. Dirt and debris must be removed promptly.
Proper storage of food and leftover cooked food (in closed containers) and adherence to the principles of product proximity will help prevent the appearance of unpleasant odors. Not all product categories can coexist. For example, you cannot store raw meat, fish, eggs near open, ready-to-eat dishes.
No Frost refrigerator: care features
If the owner transports the refrigerator himself, he must adhere to certain rules. It is ideal that the unit is in an upright position during transportation. As a last resort, its angle of inclination should not exceed 40 degrees. If the refrigerator can only be delivered lying down, then you need to make sure that the compressor tube is at the top.
The unit should be installed away from heating appliances. You should also limit direct exposure to sunlight. The minimum distance between the refrigerator and the stove is at least half a meter. The space around the unit must be free - at least within a radius of 5 cm.Only if this condition is met is sufficient air circulation ensured and overheating of the compressor is prevented.
Important! If the floor in the room where the refrigerator will be installed is planned to be insulated, then the space for the unit should be left unheated.
How to rid your refrigerator of an unpleasant odor
Bad odor present inside the refrigeration unit is a common problem. Of course, first of all it is necessary to establish and eliminate the cause of the odor. It happens that the odors of fresh products when mixed become unpleasant.
To eliminate the problem, use a wide range of special air fresheners. They are inexpensive and last for three months.
You can also use natural remedies that are found in every home. They are usually placed in saucers on a shelf inside the unit. These products include: orange peels, unused tea bags, natural coffee, activated carbon. The latter should be crushed (about 30 tablets) and left on the shelf for several weeks. Interestingly, charcoal powder can be reused if you put it in a preheated oven for 10 minutes.
If you keep the refrigerator clean regularly and follow the operating rules, the unit will delight you with impeccable operation for many years.
