Why do you need a kettle if water can be heated in a ladle (turk, saucepan)?
The kitchen interior is quite standard: refrigerator, stove, oven, kettle, microwave... Do we really need a kettle? It has one function - to boil water, and that’s it. So maybe it's worth freeing up some space on your desk?

Advantages and disadvantages of this item
Yes, you can boil water in a saucepan, brew coffee in a coffee maker or Turk, and forget about the kettle. But there is no need to cut from the shoulder, we will try to understand the issue from all sides.
pros
- Modern models run on electricity and can turn off on their own when they heat up enough. I think this is an important safety aspect! Sometimes you can simply forget about boiling water: an important call from work, a child’s prank or simple inattention.
- Quick boiling saves a lot of time, especially when it comes to getting ready for work in the morning, when traditionally every second is worth its weight in gold.
- High-quality models last a long time and look very aesthetically pleasing, becoming an interior decoration.
- Hot water, brought to the right temperature, will reveal the bouquet of aromas and tastes of good tea, allowing you to enjoy a moment of relaxation.
Flaws
- Cheap versions often break down and release harmful substances, adding a plastic taste to the water, but this is a matter of choice.
- High electricity consumption, although this is partially offset by the speed of boiling.
Many people began to use coolers. They have a compartment with hot water, but here’s the paradox: despite the convenience, even instant coffee acquires an indistinct aftertaste, not to mention tea, which should be brewed with water at a higher temperature.
Which kettle should you choose?
To avoid falling into bad equipment, you should remember the basic rules for choosing good things:
- A quality item is never cheaper than its analogues! This is the law of the market! If the price is lower, it means the manufacturer has saved on something;
- give preference to branded models from well-known manufacturers. Reputable companies value their reputation and will not violate established safety standards;
- It is best to choose a device made of stainless steel; it does not react chemically with boiling water. But such kettles break down quite quickly. At the top of the hit parade are glass and ceramic models; these are recognized environmentally friendly materials, although they are fragile. They must be treated very carefully and with care.
Be able to distinguish models with stainless steel coating! Some craftsmen manage to disguise the plastic case with a metal outer layer.
Unusual ideas: what else can a kettle be useful for?
And for a snack, I prepared some very interesting life hacks for advanced users.
- Everything ingenious is simple - cook compotes right in the kettle! At the same time, we won’t need ladles, we just cook our favorite compote, pour it into a jug through the spout, and send the remaining fruit cake where it should be.
- The re-knitting yarn is pulled through the boiling kettle to straighten the thread.
- You can put jars on the kettle for sterilization, but this is suitable for housewives who have few supplies.
- It is good to treat baby nipples in boiling water.
- It’s also very convenient to speed up cooking. Large pots of cold water take a long time to get up to speed, so it's worth boiling a full electric kettle of water and adding boiling water to the pan.
So we weren’t able to get rid of the kettle, so we put it back in its place and continue to use it. Some for their intended purpose, and some no longer! The decision is yours.
