Drywall carrier. How to carry it yourself

Drywall - affordable, but not the most durable material. They are thin and large slabs, which are not always convenient to carry by hand, even with two people. To facilitate transportation indoors and on site, a special carrier for drywall is used. There are other types of equipment - they are described in detail in the presented article.

Carrying requirements

Often, even at home, the question arises of how to move drywall alone or together. It is not always possible to do this manually, so you have to use special devices. Tools should be as light as possible and meet several requirements:

  • reliable fixation of already cut or whole sheets;
  • the ability to rise to a certain height (preferably in a horizontal position);
  • the device for carrying drywall should have handles for convenient operation;
  • the ability to hold the free edge during installation.

Types of carriers

There are quite a few types of carrying equipment in use today. If the volume of work is large, you will need a drywall cart. But at home you can get by with simpler tools:

  • carrying handles: lightweight, compact, but allow you to transport only a few sheets;
  • lifts: provide vertical movement, which is important when performing ceiling work;
  • equipment for fixing sheets, thanks to which you can conveniently cut, make cuts and holes.

Carrying handles

This is the simplest, inexpensive and therefore popular device for carrying sheet materials with your own hands. You can move only 1-2 fragments at a time, but it is convenient to do so, the weight is evenly distributed over the entire frame.

It is important to understand that carrying handles often have to be used by only two people - for this they are equipped with 2 handles. A tool for carrying sheet materials is usually equipped with a plastic body and a rubber pad. Moreover, some types, for example, as in the photo, are suitable for one person.

Trolleys

If there is a lot of material, the question arises of how to move drywall, not only efficiently, but also quickly. Such equipment itself is massive and large, but can transport several tens and even hundreds of kg of material (usually up to 400 kg).

The laying principle is uniform - all sheets are placed on edges so that they take up as little space as possible. At the same time, a slope is formed at a slight angle for additional stability. Do-it-yourself gripping for carrying sheet materials is carried out at a convenient height. After that, it is transported on a trolley to any place.

Mounting supports

If the handle for carrying drywall allows you to simply carry the sheets to the right place, then the mounting supports serve a different purpose. They fix the plate in a vertical position. Such devices have a stop that can be raised to any height. This makes it convenient to fasten different sheets to each other, make holes or cuts.

There are other types of supports, which are ordinary clamps. They not only support the sheet in an upright position, but also keep it motionless. Although the height is small - about 80 cm, so the master has to bend down while working.

A more convenient option is when the lock is equipped with a simple pedal mechanism. By pressing the pedal, you can adjust the desired height. But in practice such mechanisms are rarely used.

Frame lifts

Sheet materials can also be transported using frame lifts. This is professional equipment that allows you to transport elements both vertically and horizontally. You can also use it to fix sheets and carry out installation work.

If necessary, carry out vertical lifting to a height of within 3 m, i.e. one floor. It's much easier and faster than carrying them up the stairs. On average, the carrying capacity of such installations is 50 kg, and their own weight is 2 times less.

Carrying for sheet materials

Working with the equipment is quite simple, but it is quite expensive. It is advisable to purchase installations only in case of professional need. If repairs are being carried out at home, it is quite possible to cope on your own.

Thus, for home repairs, it is easier to purchase a drywall grip and carrying handle. These are the most common and affordable devices that can be used even by one person. But if the volume of work is large, it is worth considering professional equipment that allows you to both transport sheets and fix them during installation.
