Read on if you are interested in what quartz instrument sterilizers are, why quartz sterilizers are needed, and types of sterilizers.

What are quartz instrument sterilizers? Sterilization devices are devices necessary for disinfection and disinfection of materials (nails, instruments, fabrics, etc.). Most often used in cosmetology and medical institutions.

During their work, doctors/cosmetologists operate using instruments directly inside the client’s body. The instruments themselves may not be sterile enough - they may contain various microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, microbes, spores), so the client may become infected/contaminated.

Therefore, every beauty salon today is equipped with some kind of sterilizer. Most often this is a quartz model - they are popular because of their small size and weight, as well as ease of use.

Why are quartz sterilizers needed? Everyone who has done or been given a manicure knows how difficult and responsible work it is. One wrong move, and the coating is damaged, and due to non-compliance with safety precautions or unsanitary conditions, the client may become infected. To avoid this, masters perform a number of procedures for disinfection, sterilization and cleaning of nails/instruments. Cleaning process steps:

  • Disinfection
  • Preparation for sterilization, cleaning
  • Sterilization

The first stage is a set of actions for cleaning instruments from pathogens (germs, viruses). Each master does it differently. The safest thing to do is to create a working solution. To do this, the instruments are immersed for 5 minutes in a two percent solution of Estilodez concentrate with water (20/980 milliliters - 1 liter of working solution).

Next, PSO (pre-sterilization cleaning) occurs - each instrument is manually cleaned for 30 seconds with a brush in the same solution used for disinfection. Next, they are rinsed under warm water for a minute or two and an azopyram test is performed. The last thing is to check for the presence of occult blood. If the instrument is well washed and disinfected, the result will be negative. Otherwise, repeat the previous procedures until the sample becomes negative. Afterwards, wipe and dry the instruments on a clean disposable towel; a napkin will do.

The last stage is sterilization - complete cleaning of the surface from microorganisms. In salons, for this purpose, masters use sterilizing devices such as an autoclave, UV or quartz sterilizers. There are many types of sterilization equipment. Quartz models are in greatest demand - they are compact, lightweight, efficient, convenient and cheap. The tools are simply placed inside the device, after which it is launched. In half an hour, all microorganisms and even spores are removed.

Home cosmetologists, especially beginners, act more “cheap and cheerful” - they sterilize instruments in the oven. To do this, they are also washed with detergent under warm running water, then dried and wiped. They are then placed in bags for sterilization, and the bags with tools are placed on a baking sheet in the oven. The temperature is set to 180 degrees Celsius. Wait 15 minutes. This is a fairly simple and effective sterilization method when there is no specialized device.

What types of sterilizers are there? There are four types of sterilizers in total. They differ in size, price, duration, purpose and efficiency. In the field of medicine, large models are used, while cosmetology uses compact ones. Types of sterilizers:

An autoclave (steam cleaning device) is the most effective device for disinfecting instruments. The autoclave is based on the principle of steam cleaning. Water is poured into the device, which is boiled by an electric heater. Next, it is supplied in the form of steam under controlled pressure and temperature to the instruments/material being processed (in autoclaves, tissues and dressings can also be disinfected). Complete cleaning of the surface occurs in an hour. Most often, autoclaves are installed in medical institutions.

Dry heat sterilizers are a kind of oven from the world of disinfectants. Externally, they are also similar to ovens. In them, tools are placed on a special grid, which are heated by a stream of dry hot air. The air temperature is regulated, the disinfection time is 1.5-2 hours.

Quartz models are the most popular devices for sterilizing instruments in the beauty industry. The device will not work with large surgical instruments, but does an excellent job with small ones. Due to their compactness, efficiency and price, they can be found in almost every beauty salon.

Ultraviolet models - these devices are often found both in cosmetology and in medicine. They are considered the easiest sterilizers to manufacture and use. They are based on powerful ultraviolet lamps. With prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation on the surface, most microorganisms die. However, these devices are not as effective as the same quartz models or autoclaves. They also disinfect nails after a manicure.
