What pneumatics are considered dangerous? What air guns require a license?
Let's be clear - not all air guns are considered weapons. It has already been mentioned that there is no single law regulating air guns. There are only a couple of orders, a resolution and an article in the Criminal Code.
In them, a pneumatic weapon with a caliber of 4.5 millimeters and an initial velocity of an exiting bullet of 100 meters per second is considered a “dangerous weapon” (hereinafter - the specified requirements). We will build on this data.
If at least one of these requirements is not met, the weapon is not classified as dangerous - no documents are required for it. For example, 4.4 millimeters and 100 meters per second, 4.5 millimeters and 99 meters per second, 3.2 millimeters and 106 meters per second, 4.6 mm and 92 meters per second.

To legally possess/use pneumatics equal to or greater than these requirements, a license or permit is required. You can get it at the regional office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. To obtain a permit/license you will need:
- Copy of the passport
- 4 photos 3 by 4 centimeters
- Weapon purchase receipt
- Certificate 127-OBL (obtained at the hospital)
- certificate of good conduct
- Completed application card
- Printed or handwritten application for a permit (at the Ministry of Internal Affairs department)
Regarding the transportation of pneumatics by mail:
The weapon requirements are equal to or greater than those specified (caliber 4.5 millimeters, initial speed 100 meters per second) - it is prohibited to transport by mail. Criminal penalties for attempting to send such airguns by mail.
At least one requirement is less than specified - air guns can be transported by mail.
At what age can you buy/use an air pistol?
There are no age restrictions for purchasing airguns - they are not specified anywhere, but in order to legally possess airguns with specified or greater requirements, a license/permit is required. It is issued only if you have a passport.
Therefore, you can only store and use pneumatics if you are 18 years old or older.
If the requirements of your weapon are lower than those indicated, then there are no age restrictions on use/purchase.
Rules for storing/transporting pneumatics. Can I carry an air pistol?
Different types of pneumatics need to be stored differently. Most often, the Ministry of Internal Affairs says that your weapon should be stored in a metal safe with a wall thickness of 1.5 millimeters and a front panel thickness of 2 millimeters. The safe must be attached to both the floor and the wall. This is how you need to store pneumatics with the specified or greater requirements.
Such weapons can be transported only in an unloaded state, in a specialized carrier - a suitcase or case, away from cartridges.
Carrying a pneumatic weapon with a caliber of 4.5 mm and a bullet speed of 100 m/s is prohibited. It is not issued for self-defense. Carrying such weapons is punishable by law.
There are no restrictions on storing/transporting/carrying pneumatic weapons with lesser requirements.
